"A newly identified mutation, passed down through the X-chromosome, is linked to earlier onset of ovarian cancer in women and prostate cancer in father and sons. Kunle Odunsi, Kevin H. Eng and colleagues at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, report these findings February 15th, 2018, in PLOS Genetics."

Hmmm, thanks for posting. I'm always looking for reasons as to why I have both breast and prostate cancer. This may not be it, but we are learning more about genetics all the time and answers will evolve with time.

Lucky me, I have this newly discovered gene mutation. It's called NBN. It makes BRCA look tame.

My grandpa had colon cancer, his mother had ovarian cancer, my mom has breast cancer and melenoma, my sister had melenoma, both my nieces had melenoma and my son had Lymphoma. It also causes lung cancer. NBN causes all of these cancers. My son , my mom and myself are the only ones who have been tested in our family. We were all positive. Im sure at least 4 others have it too. I have had a hysterectomy. I am planning a double masectomy. Last week they found 3 lumps in my lungs. I also had 3 large polys removed during a colonoscopy. They were benign but labeled high risk. I am only 45 yrs old. This fantastic gene is radiation sensitive so, radiation is out of the question. 3 doses of chemo almost killed my son. His doctors say if the cancer comes back they cannot give him radiation or chemo. I know a young lady with this gene who had ovarian cancer. She died soon after chemo and radiation. They only discovered this gene 3 years ago and they know next to nothing about it. Getting this diagnosis feels like a death sentence.

This report is about a newly discovered mutation that is located in the X chromosome (one of two sex chromosomes in humans)

My understanding is that a NBN mutation is a separate (completely different) mutation located on chromosome 8.

Besa, you are absolutely right. I have the NBN deletion mutation. It is not a death sentence. It puts me at around 30% higher risk than average for breast cancer. It elevates my risk for melanomas as well. Much is still unknown about this NBN mutation. And studies are ongoing.
