Hi everyone,

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, but I am thoroughly freaked out. Starting about 5 days ago I had shooting pains in my left breast, and they went away yesterday, and this morning I noticed skin puckering in my areola, right above my left nipple. The puckering for the most part goes away after my body adjusts to a temperature change, but there is a line indentation that is there that isn't going away. I don't have any family history of cancer, and I have had yoyoing weight, but I'm panicking. Dr. Google is not helpful for that.

dogmom89, big hugs to you. I am 29 and just went through an ordeal with my breast and just got news today that everything in benign. The unknown and waiting part is the scariest.

My issue also involved a shooting/sharp pain, and I eventually found a lump right where the pain was coming from. I also thought my areola and surrounding skin on that breast looked weird - sort of a puckering noticed more with temp changes and more noticeable than my other breast, but the fact that it returns pretty much to normal after adjusting to the temp change is probably a regular thing and not really connected to something scary. I also noticed an indent on top of areola that was more prominent when raising my arm, had a drier nipple on that breast, and thought the hair follicles were more noticeable.

Met with breast surgeon 6 months ago and she said it was all perfectly normal. However, my follow-up ultrasound this month showed changes to the lump, so had biopsy and found that it is indeed still benign.

You are doing the right thing by getting it checked by the doctor, but chances are very good that it'll be nothing bad. Telling you not to worry won't do any good because I know it's hard to turn that worry off, but just try to take it one step at a time.

@everythingisok your symptoms do sound exactly like mine, except neither I nor my husband can feel a lump (he says my breasts feel pretty identical, and he's an ultra detail oriented person so I trust him). I hope my doctor arrives to the same conclusion as yours!

The fact that you can't find a lump is probably an even better sign since most cases of breast pain without a lump seem to have benign causes.
