Core needle biopsy of 4 different sites
Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I don't want to worry any of my friends and family, so I'm glad that I can at least share my concerns with some others on here who will understand. I am not one to usually worry about biopsies. I've had a couple in the past that were benign, no biggie. But a year and a half ago I had a stereotactic biopsy and then an excisional biopsy of my left breast. Two areas were removed, and they both turned out to be ADH. That was 2016. This month, my surgeon drained a cyst in the same breast, and then sent me in for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. Long story short, I go back next week for a core needle biopsy, and NORMALLY I would be counting the odds in my favor, but unfortunately being educated on the subject has actually made me more worried this time around. They are taking samples from four different areas. One of the lesions is hypo echoic with angular borders. One of the lesions is hypo echoic and nonparallel. There were visible micro calcifications on the ultrasound, and the micro calcifications on the mammogram were fine, plemorphic, and linear. If they find that these micro calcifications do not correspond with the core needle biopsy sites next week, then I will have to come back for a stereotactic biopsy on those. (I'd rather have surgery again!) I keep trying to console myself that it's Birads 4 and not 5, but I am still worried, more than usual. Has anyone else had experience with a biopsy of multiple sites? They seem to be near one another, not too far from where ADH was previously found, so that makes me nervous.

Biopsy results: more ADH. Sigh... MRI and another excisional biopsy next month. Wondering if i should consult with someone regarding my current risk and the pros and cons of Tamoxifen, now that this has come back in less than two years. On the bright side, at least i know what to expect now that i've already been through it once before. Glad it wasn't cancer, but my heart goes out to all you ladies. Keep fighting!

Oh goodness! Glad to hear it’s not cancer, but I can imagine how frustrating it it to go through this again.
I was just diagnosed last week with ADH, and I have my excisional biopsy on 2/22

Thank you. I’m sorry to hear that you are going through this as well. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

annnnd..... when I read the pathology report myself, I found out that it is ALH I have now, not ADH again, which is what my understanding had been from the surgeon. I wasn't too concerned before, because I'd been down that road, and I knew what to expect, but now I have more questions.... seems to be a lot of info on ADH and ALH, but not much info on having been diagnosed with both... Sigh.
-
Oh wow! I haven't seen much info on having both, either. Do you have your excisional biopsy scheduled yet?
-
Yes, it's scheduled for next month. I also have to get an MRI soon. I scheduled an appointment with another surgeon tomorrow for a second opinion, because from what I understand, ALH doesn't always need to come out, but then again considering that I have another benign lesion nearby it and calcifications (and last time this happened, the radiologist swore that nothing needed to be done, until we got the pathology report back as ADH) .... I'm thinking that the surgery is probably a good idea. Just want to make sure this is the right decision, and hoping I can get some counseling from someone in terms of what my risk is now compared to two years ago!
