Brca2 and mammogram callback
I’m scared. I’m 43 and a mom of two. Just went for a mammogram yesterday and got a call back today. I’m going back in a week from today for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. I read somewhere that if they tell you that you need both of this rather than just a diagnostic mammogram, they have really seen something and aren’t just looking for a “better picture.” Is that true?
My mom had very early stage breast cancer 8 years ago & had a double mastectomy. She has been fine since...she’s 68 now. I’m just so w

- I have just been referred to a geneticist also because I took my raw DNA file (from ancestry.com) and paid to run it through a health screening site. Their results said I have a brca 2 mutation that is considered pagenogenic

Hi BBAZ,
Sorry to hear your BRAC2 and high risk. It is scary. I was tested after my mom suggested it as she found out 2 years ago that she was BRAC2 and had had breast cancer 17 years ago when she turned 70. I was positive for it of course, and while it worried me and though I had about 9 more years to decide if I wanted to have surgery in advance. It was good to know so my doctors put me on an enhanced imaging schedule with once a year breast MRI's, as well as enhanced checks for cervical cancer. So, that's how my tumor was found, on MRI last December. Essentially, I already had breast cancer and Melanoma when the BRAC2 test came back positive.
I think they use a combination of tests if necessary, mammograms and ultrasound. Mine didn't show up on either. It's possible that whatever is being looked at could be benign also. Let us know what you find out.

I get called back after every screening mammogram for diagnostic and ultrasound. I have dense breasts. I wouldn’t worry about being called back for both. It’s very common

Hi Vedeer14,
Thanks for your response. I'm sorry you're going through all this. I hope you're doing as well as possible and you have a good support network and treatment plan in place. I think I'm going to find this next week pretty rough with the waiting. For some reason, I keep tearing up if I think about my kids too much or look at them too long (they're 12 and 14). I really hope you're doing well and thank you for responding to me:)
