NOLA docs and St. Tammany hospital
I just wanted to post this for anyone that may be in my position now or in the future. I just had MX+recon at the Breast Center in NOLA with Drs. Ordoyne and Trahan. My insurance would not cover their dedicated hospital (common with insurance from CA and MI), but I was able to have the surgery covered at St. Tammany Parish Hospital on the north side of the lake. The docs have surgical privileges.
I couldn't find anyone on these boards who had been to St. Tammany and not many who had these two particular doctors. So if anyone would like information on any of this, please feel free to post here or PM me. Of course, the Center will connect you with prior patients, which is wonderful. I spoke with a few women this way, and they were so great and a wealth of information and support.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ordoyne and Dr. Trahan. Not only are they amazing at what they do, they have incredible bedside manner. They were both completely available and open to all of my questions and concerns, before and after surgery, and never made me feel bad for asking (and I had a million questions). They are just really caring and supportive.
St. Tammany was good although I have nothing to compare it to. Right after surgery, everyone I came in contact with were amazing. The nurses were so sweet/caring, helpful and just on it. For the first day or two in recovery, the nurse has only 3 patients, I believe. So I felt like she was pretty much there whenever I needed her. After day two, they start caring for more patients, so then I felt like it was harder to get attention. All in all though, it was just fine. I believe the Center has a 1 to 1 ratio, which obviously would be a lot nicer. Also, by the way, they don't put us on a floor with sick or infectious patients.
That's just a quick summary. Please let me know if you want anymore information. Best of luck!

Dear Mary, Yes!!! I'm in exactly the same position. Live in Pasadena CA and my insurance refuses to pay for their facility. Would you be available to chat?

Yes! Just sent you a PM.

Just want to update my post and say that I've been hearing that the center may have stopped doing surgeries at St. Tammany. I don't know if they have another hospital option that might be covered by CA insurance, but if not, this makes me really sad. Just a heads up. Hopefully there's another option or they will rethink this change. Hugs to all.

I think they also do them at Crescent City Hospital

Yes! I'm scheduled for Crescent Hospital in April.
