The excisional biopsy that didn't happen. :(

So, back in December, I had a Birads 5 mammogram. It was a very stressful month, but biopsy came back benign as complex sclerosing lesion. Yesterday I was scheduled for my excisional biopsy. I had the wire inserted, was all hooked up, and they were ready to take me back for anesthesia and the doctor came in and cancelled it. After they did the wire insertion, they did another mammogram for her to have before surgery and they found another area of concern far from the lesion they were set to remove that was never seen on the mammograms in December. She cancelled the procedure as she wants to now biopsy the new one. I go back to the hospital today for the biopsy. So frustrated. This will be the 4th biopsy on my left breast. The previous 3 have been benign. I am guessing this one is too. But I also have to wonder since they felt concerned enough to cancel everything because of it. Anyone ever have this happen?

It sounds like you have a great doctor, making sure they are covering all the bases. I'm sorry you've gone through so much, though!

It was a good thing that they caught it before your surgery was in process. I know the added anxiety of waiting is horrible but it will be so much better to have all the info before going forward with surgery. I hope you get the new results soon. Please keep us posted and I pray for good results.

Have they suggested an MRI or can you ask for one? With so much going on it sounds like they need a better scan to see everything

So, I just got back from the biopsy. Radiologist says results should be back in a few days. She indicated that based on how it looks, it will need to be removed. So, I guess better to wait and only have one surgery than having to repeat this.

I meet with the surgeon again on Monday. I don't think there was ever a reason to do a MRI. I guess we will see what this biopsy comes back as.

Sorry you are dealing with this. An MRI shows more than a mammogram. Sounds like it would be a good idea to request one to cover all of your bases. How frustrating and mentally draining.
