Itching right breast
So I have become very concerned over the last year. My right breast itches almost all the time. I went almost a year ago and informed my doctor and he said it was nothing. But the itching has persisted and has moved into the nipple as well as the breast. Cancer of all forms runs in my family and worried doctor is just blowing me off. If it's nothing shouldn't it have gone away by now?

Hi Vickie, and welcome to BC.org!
Have you told your doctor about these new changes in your breast? We know it's scary, but try not to worry too much and take one step at a time. It could be some benign condition that still needs a treatment.
Kind wishes,

Hi Vickie,
Please insist that they offer you a proper screening (u/s and 3d mammo). I had an itchy spot for a few years on my left breast and more than one breast specialist doctor shrugged it off. Unfortunately it was my body telling me that something wasn't right.
Not to scare you, but a regular mammogram did not see a 7 cm tumor in that breast 4 months prior to diagnosis.
You have to insist that they do something, or go elsewhere.
Hoping it turns out ok for you.

I will be going back to the doctor in two months for my yearly exams. I feel in my heart that something isnt right. I had this same feeling when I went to the doctor for a pap and found out that I had Pre-cancerous cells in my cervix just under the lining. Doctor said that it would have become full blow within six months and that we caught it just in time. I may have to go out of town to a different doctor if he doesnt listen this time. Thank you for you support.

Was it 7 cm ? Almost three inches in diameter?
-
But more than likely it is simply an itchy breast...
-
I just had a pre screening for an itchy nipple and some skin changes, I was put in for a mammogram and a Ultra Sound the next day, They said they did not find anything. I was insistent on further testing, So this next week I see a surgeon for a consult. I wont stop until I get a needle biopsy to know anything for sure..It is not normal for your nipple to itch and pain radiating from behind.
-
Can you let us know what you find out??

I just came upon this thread and it hit a nerve. I remembered that I also had an "itchy" breast before I was diagnosed. People often ask what symptoms I had before the cancer was diagnosed. All I recall was fatigue and my hair seemed to be falling out more than what was considered normal. I truly didn't associate the itchy breast with the cancer until I read this thread. But, I have to say, yes, I definitely had an itchy breast. Whether an indication of cancer or not, it does bear looking into. Good luck to you!

Yes I will.

Reading your post I am realizing that my recent excessive hair loss could be a symptom. We all lose hair I understand but I am losing it an alarming rate. I cant even cook dinner in my own home without needing a hair net, touch my head and hair falls out. I am tired all the time but maybe all these things a associated with being stressed out about it. I have this feeling of impending doom and have even created my living will, and other advanced directives because I cant get this feeling out of my head. Thank you to everyone for your support
-
Please let us know how it comes out.
-
Losing hair is frequently hormonal or thyroid or stress related. Lots of women experience more hair loss as they enter menopause or perimenopause.
-
I have normal hair loss I think.. few strands her or there. I have a big Vit D deficiency, at one point my numbers were down in the teens and I was on 80,000 IU of Vitamin D.I did not know until recently that my age, the lack of Vit D are also precursors for my itchy breast and Pagets Disease..I hope that tomorrows biopsy doesn't take long to come back

I had my consultation with a surgeon on Thursday the 17th , I am scheduled for a double surgical biopsy this next week. one will be directly next to the nipple where I have a red spot, and one will be just above the nipple area where I have pain that radiates towards the nipple. I made sure the surgeon was fully aware of my family history, my sister went un-diagnosed for a year, as her small town Dr felt it was "just a milk duct" infection even tho she was in pain. I am confident in a biopsy for answers. and if it isn't anything then I will question what else it could be. Knowing I have done all I can do for answers and the fact that I have a good Dr behind me feels great.
Vicki81058 how are you doing?
-
Dr gave me antibiotics, said could be an infection. Been taking four days no help. Red area persistent and pain in nipple still there. Can't concentrate on anything because of the pain and itching. I feel like everyone just thinks I'm paranoid or crazy. I want it to be just an infection. Hopefully can get into my ob in the next two weeks. I hope you get good results

recommend ...change doctors
Request mammogram maybe ct
All best b

I will go see my ob next week, he will give me a mammogram, I will just be more demanding this time with the symptoms I have now. Thank you

Update - I went to my gynecologist today and he ordered a mammogram and also is referring me to a specialist. He was able to see the changes in the breast and thought it prudent to refer me to a specialist. I get the mammogram on Friday. Not sure yet when the appointment with the specialist will be.

I have also had an itchy nipple and areola for over a year now. The skin is a little thickened and rough, but it seems to come and go. Sometimes the nipple is very red, sometimes not. My primary originally gave me a steroid cream, and then a dermatologist switched me to desonide, more of an ointment. I had a diagnostic 3D mammogram, and an ultrasound. They didn't find anything, and the radiologist even examined me and said that she did see what I was talking about, and that I could circle back with the derm if it would make me feel comfortable. I'm at a loss as to what to do. If it is Paget's, wouldn't I have more symptoms by now? Wouldn't it be red all the time? Or does it sometimes come and go? Thanks for your input.

TRACYLG, I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. Maybe ask for a biopsy as others are suggesting. It that comes back clear then you should be good. From what I understand not everyone's symptoms are the same. At first a year ago mine would come and go but now it's not going away and very painful. Yesterday at the gyno I realized it was more painful than I thought as the gyno was examining the area and pressing on it, I wanted to punch him it hurt so bad. I hope mine is just some sort of dermatitis, but at this point creams, lotions and pills are making no impact. with my family history I just need to make sure. I can't even function at work

Hi ladies, just wanted to chim in that I too had itchy breasts. Turned out it was the area that I had 2 mm and 4 mm tumors. Near the nipple. And my other side became itchy too w DCIS. I was seen at Stanford and they asked what my symptoms were that was the only one. It gives me the willies thinking about it. Urge your drs ladies for further testing.
-
So I just left the hospital where I was supposed to have my mammogram. They wouldn't do it, they said with my symptoms I needed a bilateral diagnostic test and the radiologist needed to be present for it. I am a little freaked out about it.
-
Sounds like they ordered the wrong test, a screening mammo instead of a diagnostic mammo. That sucks. Hopefilly they can get you rescheduled soon. Try to hang in there with it a little longer.

Hi Vicki and ladies, I am two days post-op from two surgical biopsy's ..Surprisingly NO pain as it was done on the areola (an area on the bottom with a red spot about an inch and a larger section on the upper part when pain radiates down towards the nipple about 2.5 inches)... I wont know how many stitches until my bandage can come off tomorrow. He did say he gave me dissolving stitches that will come out on their own. I see him again on the 12th of Feb. Vicki don't be to concerned with having a radiologist there, You probably wont even see them they are their to look at the films real quick and request more or your done while they have you there.
-
Best of luck ladies!
Looking back, I too had an itchy nipple, no redness and not all the time. I had a 1.5 cm tumor at 12 o'clock. I don't remember being told that itching was a possible sign of bc, but I did stumble on it after surgery.

Finally got results today from a double Biopsy. Bring you all up to date. I started with a itchy nipple and pain the radiated towards the nipple. Mammogram and Ultra sound showed nothing. I was referred to a breast surgeon who was good about listening to family history which included misdiagnoses of my sisters breast cancer and she ultimately passed away.I was able to convince him to do a biopsy. Thanking God that today's results where good and there is NO CANCER at all. I still have an itchy nipple with a pain that still radiates towards the front of nipple. The Dr. could not explain the itchy or pain and could only suggest some primrose. oil.The main thing is I have no cancer, I feel I followed thru with every option of testing. I was told to follow thru with future mammograms and if I see anythings to have myself re evaluated.

I had a mammogram lord I saw the stars. Does it really need to be that painful and the nurse was not very nice. Now I’ve been having discomfort on my left breast it feels like a bruise. I seen on the discussion other women have experienced similar issues.

Excellent news!!! Thanks for posting your update. Keep a check on things and if ever with a doubt an MRI is a high diagnostic tool and less painful than biopsy!
Stay healthy!!
