Congrats Scaligirl!!! Only just picked up you are DONE! Yah!

I have 3 more boosts to go. The burns on my nipple are pretty ok and I get the weekend to deal with them which is great. The rest of my skin is holding up fine. It has a bit of what looks like a sweat rash but it is not bothering me. My boob is still dimply and welty but I’m actually not feeling too bad. We are off to Macklemore tomorrow night so that’s just as well. Lol. I’m finding I’m tired. Like early pregnancy tired but today I scrubbed a blind in the kitchen, went to the shops and did a few loads of washing so I’m not that incapacitated.

Have a lovely weekend girls and rest up for next week if you are still going or healing. Xx

Happy Friday night and rads free weekend to all! I hope many of you got to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies - I missed the first hour but was impressed with the last hour.

Finished #7/20 today and my nipple is so tender! Pink all over the front but that's not too bad. Also, it is weird but that nipple is standing at attention ALL THE TIME for 2 days now and it is really irritating. Must be from swelling? Did this happen to anyone else? How can this be happening so soon? I've used Miaderm in the mornings and after treatment in the afternoon, then Aquaphor at night. Work has been crazy and I just cannot get to the bathroom to apply at work. My RO prescribed 2%lidocaine "mucous membrane solution" to mix 1:1 with aquaphor but I haven't gotten it filled yet. Can this be better than my 4% lidocaine Miaderm that is OTC? I'll try to ask a pharmacist if you gals don't have your usual answers to every question I ever have :)

Anyway, my beautiful DD#3 had a Jr. High dance tonight and I was not able to help her get ready. I usually do my DD's hair and makeup and get them all fixed up for their dances, etc. But I had to work and then rads and then traffic and I almost missed seeing her at all. I had to get another mom to let her go with them to a salon for hair and makeup and I feel like a horrible mom that I was not there. I know I have to do what I'm doing, but I feel so bad about missing this special time. She looked so beautiful. She'll be home any minute and I will get to hear all about it.

Hello everyone, Even though I don't post much, I check in every night. You all have been my greatest support for the last few months. My friends and family are amazing, but they don't REALLY know how I feel.

I have three boosts left! My skin is peeling and super painful under my arm and on my collar bone. I'm so happy there is an end in sight, but find myself getting anxious about ending treatment. Does anyone else feel this way?

Mama I am sorry to hear your skin is peeling & sore. I had that happened on my boosts on my incision area. Hang in there you will heal & get better. I think the whole dealing with a cancer diagnosis not only leaves physical marks it leaves mental ones too. You are so used to having appointments & seeing doctors that once your done you wonder okay now what. It's hard to go back to where you were in your life as there are new norms to deal with & fears of reocurrance too & I was told it's natural & does get better. Hang in there your almost done & your skin can start to heal as well as your body & mind.

Have a great weekend off rads ladies. Wishing you all a bit of healing on your skin. Hugs

Mama, I have three boosts remaining too. The skin under my arm is red and slightly swollen, but my collarbone and shoulder are beginning to recover. My nurse told me the underarm gets a lot of skin-to-skin friction and will need more time to heal. She wants me to keep eating lots of protein and using lotion 3-4 times a day. We'll be discussing next steps when I receive my discharge paperwork on Wednesday. She did say that the ROs will be seeing me every 6 months for the next couple of years. I find that reassuring.

    Thank you PVM and HersheyKiss,

This is why I read these posts everyday. Because of women like you who share your thoughts, ideas and encouragement. My skin looks a little better tonight after a saline soak and some aquaphor. It's nice to have the weekend to heal a bit

Mama keep the lotion on, for my experience boost is easier. Skin will continue to peel after a week of radiation but skin heals fast.

    Hi ladies, how’s everyone doing?

Down, I used the 4% lidocaine OTC on the last two weeks and it helps me a lot. Not sure you saw my picture of collarbone it got burned pretty bad so I kept the 4% on.

Congrats Scaligirl on finishing.  this is my last week of rads!! looking forward to Friday. I'm not sure if we have a bell somewhere or not. I think they used to but i am unable to locate it perhaps it is portable.

small infection under arm is a bit better- just using saline compresses and polysporin as per RO recommendations. will see him tomorrow.

moderately reddish brown under the arm and a few new freckles on my chest- it is slightly tanned now and the scarring from the MX seems stiffer?  I lotion about 2-3 x per day.

This is a great forum, thanks Down for starting it and everyone else for participating!

It's so exciting to read that so many of us are finishing to this coming week! Down, I have that same nipple tenderness and standing at attention all day. It's seriously annoying. My nipple skin is very dark from the treatments and has finally started peeling some so hopefully it will be back to normal in a week or two. The rest of my skin is doing better. No more raw area under my arm thank goodness. Now it is just one massive scab that I am trying desperately not to touch.

My one new side effect that just sucks is breast tenderness. All day yesterday my boob just plain hurt. It hurts just being and hurts even more if I touch it. Not my skin but the breast tissue itself. I took 3 Advil every 4 hours with little effect. My RO mentioned this last time I saw him and I've been web searching this morning so apparently it is very common but damn. It hurts. A lot. I slept awful last night. I gotta keep searching to find some relief. Any one else experience this?? I might try ice packs today.

I'm 4+ weeks post rads, skin hasn't peeled nor scabbed. Only visual differences are darkened skin & nipple, additional freckles. In the middle of my chest it almost looks dirty. I keep lotioning up, and upper chest is itchy. Is it going to peel? How far out before it stops itching?

Scaligirl- I haven't had the pain you're describing. I ache now and then but it doesn't last. Ask RO if you need something stronger. Hoping it stops soon. Hugs.

Heading into my last week of proton rads (one week of boosts after that). My chest is itchy (folliculitis) and pink, of course. I’ve got my boost simulation early tomorrow, and really looking forward to being done...

I don’t have pain Scaligirl. But I had tenderness on my breast especially my nipple. It went away after a week. I’m 3 weeks post, finished peeling on my collarbone area, breast didn’t peel just tanned. I found muscles are tight and need stretching all the time. I still lotion on twice a day, I hardly have any itch.

Wow lots of us nearly done! Yah!!! I have 2 boosts to go. Today they took ages to get me positioned right for the boost. I had to get up and they had to start over because it just wouldn’t line up properly. My skin is red and my nipple has a few small rad burns and a raw looking bit on the areola other than that my skin has held up pretty well considering I reacted pretty much straight away.

Went to Macklemore last night and today I’m really tired and a bit down. Oldest RT daughter went back to her new home 6 hours away and I cried after she left. I think it’s a combo of being tired and coming to the end of treatment. I’m nervous about starting hormonal in 2 weeks. My youngest is sick so I’ll have to take her to the after hours Dr after she finishes work. It’s a 40 min drive away. I feel too tired to do this but hubby works late so I’ll be sucking it up. Might try and catch a nap before.

    Take care everyone!

I'm 4 weeks post rads & my skin especially under my arm looks tanned & a bit dirty & I peeled around my nipple, under my boob & underarm. My incision looks really good though the scar healed very nice. I did not experience any boob pain though. I did get a bit of raw skin around my incision & that healed up nicely & like Amy I too now can wear a bra with no pain. Ladies hang in there the finish line is very near & we shall cheer you on as you ring that bell. Have a great rads week ladies 😊

SoCaligirl - I am having problems with breast pain. It’s not the skin but deep in the breast. I apply light pressure to the hurting area until the pain goes away. Also taking ibuprofen. 8 of 33 treatments to go, He last few will be boosts. I am getting very tired. Yesterday I pretty much slept the day away.

Thank you ladies for sharing in this forum.

Well, it's been 12 days since my final Rad and I feel like I have my energy back. I am trying not to over do exercise though, just walking and gentle yoga because the skin is still healing. Mostly just itchy as it heals and too much movement just irritates it more. I do get wierd and random pain in the breast itself but it isn't lasting long.

I start taking my arimidex on the 21st. Hoping I'll be one of the lucky ones with minimal SE.

For those still doing Rads, the end is getting closer. Stay strong! Have a great rads week and you'll be that much closer. :)

Good morning warriors! And wow, Katiejane, Mama1416, HersheyKiss, Tpralph, I am so happy that you all are so close to the finish line!!

I'm feeling less tender this morning after the break but am having trouble with gravity and some sleeping positions due to this darn nipple! I've been trying to just wear a soft men's tank top under my pajamas and give the 24/7 bra wearing a rest, but it doesn't always feel OK. I cannot tell that the Miaderm with 4% Lidocaine is doing much and it hurts just putting lotion on it. Sigh...Just like when I was pregnant, I miss sleeping on my stomach. My DH is scared to touch me. This, too, shall pass. I meant to rest yesterday, but DH and I desperately needed to restock the pantry, so we did church at home (my son picked an old Billy Graham sermon on YouTube - good stuff!) then went all over town most of the day. I was pooped out, but at least I have all I need for dinners this week!

It is so great to hear from OCDAmy, Paulette, PVM, Scaligirl, CindyNY, smwusaf, and all you others who are finished and healing and moving on to next steps. You give us support and hope and valuable info! Hang in there JenRuns and Skookum and I'll be praying about the pains and SE's.

Congratulations on many of you warriors completing this journey. I will starting my rads in a few weeks. I know when I started my chemo there were lists of items that I could get to make things easier. Do you girls have any tips or are there any items I should get ahead to have on hand. Thanks for sharing your experiences and may God bless you and keep you cancer free

    Hi Ladies,

I have been reading your posts and thought I had joined a while ago, but I guess my brain is not functioning the same. I am also in the Jan group. I started RAD's on Jan 4th and will finish on Feb 23rd and I had been coping pretty well. I was using the Miaderm 3x's a day, until a few days ago and the RO told me use it much more than that. My underarm, chest and breast are burned and feel like they are on fire. Ughhhh! Like some of you, I am also dealing with my nipple being at attention all the time, tenderness and swollen and not being able to rest, so I am tired all the time.

Mama - Keep applying that lotion and ask the RO for cooling gel packs that you can apply. They help for a few hours in between putting lotion on.

DKK - I had several trial and error experiences with specific bras and such until I found a comfortable lightweight sports bra that I could wear. I had fluid in my breast before RADS, so it only got worse after I started so, comfort was of utmost importance. One of therapists said one of the patients recommended Hanes Women's Cozy Seamless Wire Free Bra found on Amazon. Also, lotion, lotion, lotion and stretch. I am sure the other ladies have other suggestions for you because they have truly been Angels to me.

For you ladies that are finishing, YAY!!! Another chapter done!

DKK, my skin is very sensitized from treatments. Even some of my softest shirts bother my skin. I've found that boys' or men's tagless 100% cotton t-shirts worn under a blouse or sweater prevent skin irritation. If you want to wear a bra, my radiology nurse suggested the Genie bra. It is seamless and has no hooks or wires. Walmart carries Genie 3-packs.

Hi everyone! I'll be starting Rads in March, so I've been lurking here to see how all of you in the February group made it through your treatment. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's so helpful to have an idea of what to expect. It's great to see my chemo buddies from mid to late 2017. I finally finished A/C in January, and managed the SEs just fine.

As for lotions and potions for Rads, my RO suggested only Aloe Vera (100% pure) and Aquaphor. I decided to add Calendula after reading some of your posts. I might also purchase the Hanes wireless bra from Amazon and some cheap tee shirts. If any of you have any other suggestions, please speak up.

I'm getting apprehensive after hearing about raw, oozing skin, painful breasts, and lymphadema, but you have also provided good info about how to handle it. If you can do it, I can do it. So far I've made it through chemo with very few problems, and I'm hoping for the same with rads. To be honest, all of here have given me hope, and for that I want to give you a big THANK YOU!!!

DKK, I'll see you in the March Rads Group.

I’ve tried a lot of different bra types since my surgery in November.i had a double lumpectomy, reconstruction and reduction done all at once. Probably not the bes5 idea, but it’s done, so I’m ok with my choice. I find the little bralettes, genie or Hanes hit right where the scars are located from surgery. Which means pain, especially on the side getting rads. I did find a tank top in the lingerie department at Nordstrom, 2 for $49. Not cheap but not overly expensive, considering what a good supportive bra costs these days! 🙃. They are very stretchy and are the most comfortable undergarments I’ve found. It’s the problem I have under my breast due to rads, so the shorter regular length bras really hurt on my left side. Plus I’m getting pretty swollen, only a stretchy garment will work. My breasts no longer match and it’s very obvious!

On the great news side, I have 2, count them 2, total rads to finish, then 5 boosts!!

Yeah I’m going to make it to the finish. All I could think is my mom would be so pleased with me for finishing the course.

Hi everyone! Thanks for having me! Sorry it took me so long to reply after my first post but I had the flu last week. I even missed a treatment - boo!

    Today I had treatment 10/30.

I'm glad to have all your posts to read. Going through all of this can feel very isolating.

I see some of you are using certain lotions - what seem to be the favorites? Also - what are these saline soaks you mention? Are you using Epsom salts or what?

Right now, I'm using green tree/ maca compresses, organic calendula oil and fresh aloe vera. My skin seems to be holding up ok right now - a little pink and itchy after the treatment but it seems to fade while I'm sleeping at night. My most sensitive skin area is definitely the back of my shoulder/arm. I'm not sure if it is exposure or friction or both but I feel it there way more than my breast.

My breast feels a bit sore but not too bad. And I do get occasional sharp prickly pains in my breast and on the back of my arm but they are usually fleeting. My nipple is definitely sensitive and much darker now on day 10 - my whole breast looks a bit more tan than the other side.

On a super exciting note, our cancer center offers integrative services including massage! I missed last week due to the flu, but tomorrow I get a half-hour massage after my zap. It will be my first massage since I found out I had cancer in September. I can't wait!

Welcome DKK & Meg101, im a month post rads & am always on the board to support my fellow warriors kick C to the curb. The one thing i can say is to continue to moisturize your skin. I used Glaxal Base If you are getting rads on your nodes don't forget to apply moisturizer on your collarbone & back as well. I ditched my bra most of the rads treatment & used cotton soft racer back bralettes. You ladies will do fine & everyone here is very supportive.

To those amazing ladies that are having issues with the burning & your skin starting to peel hang in there. I know its easier said than done but hang in there you are almost done. Be good to yourself & take care of you & rest when needed. We are here cheering you on as you finish & ring that bell. Keep kicking butt ladies you got this.

Meg101, GREAT attitude and it's nice to meet you and others on our thread. I, too, have learned so much from those who have gone before me and I feel prepared for this fight thanks to the women here.

I spilled out of every inexpensive sports bra at Walmart and Target (I really wanted one of those zip in the front ones), and need more lift than I thought the Genie could give, but I'm mostly happy with the Hanes (no underwire) that I bought prior to my LX. They are stretchy and accommodate any swelling, but give me some support and have a row of cute stitching along the top. It hit close to my LX incision but I purposely bought one too large for the immediate postop period and it worked fine with a gauze tucked right there. I'm getting lotion and paint pen (from my marks) all over them but I'll just toss them out when I'm finished lotioning up. They come out clean after laundering so far.

DKK, my supply list for rads (mostly from reading here) was: soft bras without underwire, tub of Aquaphor, Dove Sensitive body wash, nonmetal deodorant (I got Toms of Maine), Miaderm w/ and w/out lidocaine, men's tanktop undershirts, high protein foods (goal of 60-65gm/day).

I work with babies and can easily get my hands on lactation supplies. I had a couple of nipple shields (silicone) and a nipple shell (hard cover with a soft base that keeps the nipple from touching anything) but neither of those products has helped me with nipple tenderness because after a while my swollen tissue ends up filling the device and the whole area starts to ache. Oh well, and I thought I was so clever.

Meg101 - sorry you had to find yourself here, but these are the best groups of ladies to be sharing this with. When I joined I was going through chemo and they lifted me and kept me going on days I didn't want to go on. You can do this!! While going through RADS, I tell myself.. That if I made it though chemo, I can make it though anything. When people ask how I'm doing in radiation, I say... Smiling my way through. 😉 I did purchase the tee shirts. 3 sizes bigger and found them to be very comfortable. Smashleywnc- sorry ru hear that you had the flu, but glad you're on the road to recovery.
