Thinking About our Robin (Rpoole)
Ladies
Our Robin (aka rpoole) is in the hospital tonight. Here is a post from her sister Connie on Inspire. Platelets low, pain, struggling to stay on treatments. Connie is looking for ideas if anyone wants to make a pitch. The trick is finding a treatment that doesn't slam Robin's platelets. Really we need to get her platelets to rise. Her low platelets have limited her access to trials and even prevented her from doing Abraxane consistently. Robin has considered abemaciclib but from the drift of the conversation, I suspect her medical team no longer feels it is going to work fast enough.
In any case, I am very concerned to hear about Robin's condition tonight. Robin's a fighter and not ready to throw in the towel. I am praying for her. I know many here would like an opportunity to join me.

besides platelet transfusions which are are a short term bandaid
platelets stimulating agents ( hard to pick which one if you don't have the numbers of why they are low - production, consumption, sequestration...) and not without side effects
needs to drag a motivated hematologist out of the lab!!
Some of this is used with blood disorders - both idiopathic and cancers - they are not the bread and butter of a breast oncologist - go hematopoietic specialty whether oncology or lab.
Neumega ( oprevelkin recombinant interleukin 11 ) is used in low platelets ( thrombocytopenia) as a result of chemotherapy - so helps with a platelet production problem.
If the problem is BOTH decreased production and increased consumption by peripheral sequestration, most commonly spleen... that is when it gets hard but essentially the plan would be keep your number above 40 while you get a cancer treatment that works and hopefully puts a stop to your increased platelets consumption. Once that step is achieved you try and can back off a little to let your bone marrow kick back in.

I read the Inspire post. Her oncologist did not drop the ball on Eliquis but it will not help me explaining now.
Also aspirin does not decrease platelet numbers or volume but it irreversible decreases platelet aggregation - numbers might be/look ok but platelets don't clump together.
In my view IF there is a path out is to get a oncologist who specialises in hematology - so leukaemia etc to work with her current team. Another Breast oncologist, unless they are particularly sharp, and ...some are, will not think outside the box on bone marrow suppression because it's not what they do daily. The benefit of keeping her current onc in the team is history and that counts for cancer drug choices. But I live half way across the world so maybe things are different here.

Hard to bear the thought of this sweet, strong lady having to endure this. Holding her in a soft healing light and wanting the best for her STAT.

Thank you Zarovka for opening this new thread for Robin!! My medical oncologist is out of town next week, but I meet with her physician assistant/nurse practitioner on Monday and will ask about the platelet options that Wildplaces mentioned.

I am very sad to hear that she is in the hospital and struggling with the platelets. I can only offer support and love and hope her team finds something to relieve her pain and increase her platelets.

From Robin's sister as of yesterday .. woohoo!
Robin is out of the hospital and doing better after all the fluids. She is in a lot of pain from bone mets, but that's being managed. We are praying this Abraxane will do it's job!!
