Burnt Tongue Post Chemo

I am closing in on 11 months PFC and still have a very sore tongue. It began to get a burnt feeling during Taxol. Any suggestions on what might help? I know some things that I eat aggravate it (bananas, salt, anything with vinegar) so I try to avoid those things. Last night, I had a pretty "tame" dinner and my tongue was killing me. I have tried rinsing with Biotene, baking soda and water but no relief.

Have you had a Doc look at it? Maybe something simple like nystatin would help. I’m 3 years out and can’t eat anything spicy hot...pepper. My. Mouth used to break out in sores if I ate pecans.....now I can eat them

Thanks, Indahood and Beatmom for your suggestions. Soda water helped during chemo when my tongue was sore but not any more. I'll be seeing my MO at the end of the month and will mention it. He's never sympathetic about anything so I doubt he'll say much. Certain foods do make it worse, bananas, anything salty, lime juice, vinegar. I'm trying to avoid those things and rinse with Biotene often.

    Hi there,

I too have had a painful tongue, sorry to tell you but from 2002, it started after radiotherapy and started tamoxifen, not sure whlch was the catalyst! It comes and goes, I did see numerous Doctors but honestly started to feel like a hypochondriac as they had no answers, pretty sure hormones play a part!

I too will try the soda water, sorry I can't be more helpful! X
