Tamoxifen Side Effects more intense during your Period?

Hi Ladies,

I wish us all a healthier new year! I was wondering if any of your Side effects form Tamoxifen become more intense when your period happens. I have noticed that my pelvic pain becomes much more painful. I get dizzy spells that i have never had during my period before taking Tamoxifen. When my period ends the dizzy spells go away.

As anyone had similar experiences where their SE goes from Mild to over drive during their cycle?

Thank you for sharing you will help me make sure that I am not losing my mind totally LOL

Hugs,

Sara

    Hi Sara,

I can confirm, you are not losing your mind!

I was lucky before I was diagnosed and didn't get cramps, a sore back or any of the other crappy period symptoms that are quite common. A couple months after I started taking Tamoxifen (in July 2015), I started getting cramps, general soreness and much more emotional at certain times of my cycle. It seemed to me I skipped a couple periods at different times, too, which had also never happened before. Some of that has evened out as time has gone on but just the other day I was walking around like I had been punched in the gut because I was aching so badly. I felt like Bart Simpson, moaning about my ovaries! I absolutely blame my period symptoms on the Tamoxifen mostly because I didn't have issues before I started it.

That being said, I've never had dizzy spells during my period. I would mention it to your doctor, it may be you're borderline anemic and during your period it effects you more. A friend of mine has had to take iron pills since she was a teenager because of her period.  These lovely female bodies of ours sure don't cooperate sometimes!

Wishing you all the best and gentle hugs!

    Jenn

I think anything is possible. My SE are more pronounced around ovulation, then decrease near my period.

I believe this is all hormonal shifting, and we all respond differently.

    Hi Jenn,

Thank you for your hugs and for helping me realize I haven't totally lost it. Sorry to hear that Tamoxifen has given you painful periods and that your ovaries were acting up so much. My ovaries were giving me a lot of pain when i first started taking Tamoxifen and now the pain comes and goes but around my period it really wants to come out and play even if i tell them I don't want to play right now. i guess we just have to appreciate all the days when the side effects aren't to bad.

Thank you for sharing what you have gone through it makes me feel better and know that I am not alone.

    Wishing you all the best!

    Hugs,

    Sara

    Hi gb2115,

Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you we all respond to Tamoxifen differently. i find it interesting to read what other women have gone throughout the years of taking it. We all learn from one another.

    Wishing you well.

    Hugs,

    Sara
