I called the surgeon's office 3x times today and demanded to know my pathology from the 1/26 lumpectomy. Finally the NP called and said my lymph nodes are clear which is good however there is an area where the surgeon either has to go back in and clean out or do radiation.

I'm so upset because the tumor was small 5mm and they couldn't even get it all out!!! The original marker had shifted by 1cm but that the wire was supposedly put in correctly. If anyone has had to deal with this before could you please let me know if you had to start over, get a new MRI, marker, wire procedure, etc., and go to surgery.

Hi Veeder. What seems a bit odd is for the NP to say you need a follow-up surgery OR radiation. Usually radiation is a given after lumpectomy of any sort, no matter how successful. I would schedule your follow-up visit with your surgeon and ask questions in person.

    Thanks Georgia1,

I will ask them to call the surgeon tomorrow when I'm there. The NP does the follow up surgery appointments while the surgeon is in surgery. They can call him to come over and speak with me. I just wonder how the surgeon will know exactly where the area is to be redone if it couldn't be done with the MRI that I had. I also wonder if I have to redo another MRI with markers, etc., That seemed to be where the problem was, the radiologist didn't mark it perfect.
