Newly diagnosed
I had a mammogram 12/1 which showed a spiculated lesion. I was assured by the radiology department that it was “just scar tissue” due to my previous breast reduction years ago. I use to be an oncology nurse and knew spiculated rarely was good, i declined there first recommendation to wait 6 months and repeat mammo And US. Breast biopsy was done on 12/20 was called on 12/26 confirming what I already knew. I was scheduled and had surgery 1/8, unfortunately one of the margins were not clean. I had another surgery on 1/22 which cleared all margins. Oncotype came back at a 12, genetics negative. left breast stage 2A ILC. One node showed isolated cancer cells but was considered negative. I am schedule for a radiation consult 1/8. Although I have a strong Oncology background i still find myself researching everything, wondering if i should have had a mastectomy, is not doing chemo ok. I do trust my oncologist but can’t stop my anxiety at times.

Your training as a oncology nurse and your vast knowledge and understanding is probably making your anxiety even worse... I’m a RMA (registered medical assistant) and I’ve noticed I tend to over analyze everything about my dx... Thank God you did have medical training and decided not to wait and you were able to catch this early....Sending love ❤️ and hugs tomyiu

Tkane, it certainly seems like you're doing all the right things. My grade is slightly different than yours, but I had two tumors, a mix of IDC and ILC, and an Oncotype score of 18. Both breast cancer centers I saw recommended no chemo and only three weeks of radiation, and I now feel so much better having "come out the other side." A second opinion may help you, but you will also need to summon all of your strength to fight the anxiety. My mantra is: sure, I may have a recurrence, but I may also be struck by lightning, or win the lottery!
Wishing you all the best and please stay in touch with us.
