I’m glad to see this post. A chance to express my opinion on irresponsible journalism. I was told 12 years ago that AC could affect my heart. My thought was I wanted to hit stage 3 hard. 6 months later I had a muga scan for a baseline before starting Herceptin because it could affect my heart. 12 years ago Herceptin was just approved. I wanted to survive so I jumped in. I am grateful to my doctors and researchers who gave me 12 great years.

I started Herceptin again just 2 months ago for bone mets. I was NED for 12 years. I had my heart evaluated again 2 months and it is just fine. I am one of lucky ones. This is heart association month. Had I thought about heart failure my family history might have dissuaded me from treatment if I read this .... I think not. My oncologists knew about my family history

That said seeing the “ news at 11” advertisements today made me see red. “Breast Cancer treatment can cause heart failure”. What a disservice to all of us including our families.
The ads with people running through park like settings with their good looking spouses and puppies while saying _”________may cause blada blada or death” are bad enough

Those of us taking these drugs are well aware of side effects. Yes the Post article was clear that the American Heart Association wanted patients and emergency room to make note of this & realize that more woman die of heart disease than breast cancer. But this is not a statistical contest. To make headlines for broadcast news by taking a study and sensationalizing is irresponsible.

This is only my opinion and not that of this site.

It is one of the reasons my onco doesn't immediately jump on the 10 year band-wagon for every breast cancer (tamox/ai).
