edited February 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

Today was my MRI-guided needle core biopsy, and everything seemed to go well. I met with the radiologist before and he reviewed my last MRI - he said the are of brightening with contrast was subtle, so there was a chance it wouldn't light up today. It must have, because he said otherwise they wouldn't have done the biopsy. There was a nurse in the room with me the whole time, and she was absolutely amazing! She explained every step of the process, and rubbed my hands and back while the radiologist did the biopsy. I think they took 11 or 12 samples, so hopefully I'll finally have some answers by Friday.

Ugh - last night was rough pain-wise. Luckily it seems better this morning.

Plus I kept dreaming about getting the results. I hope we all hear soon

sorry to hear about your pain momto3sons. I found gel icepacks were very helpful in the hours after the biopsy. I also got a tip on this board to make ice packs made out of a washcloth dipped in water, gently wrung out, folded in triangle or square and then place in a sandwich bag. Then drape over something roundish - like a bag of peas - and freeze. The idea is to make an ice pack roughly the shape of your breast.

Icing 20 min on / 20 min off is the recommended schedule. I found with the gel packs, just keeping them on for 40 min & swapping for a new one worked for me. Wrap in flannel so the pack is not right next to your skin.

Thanks moth! Luckily the pain eased up a ton yesterday, and today I just get a tiny twinge if I move a little too fast, or reach too far.

Elijahgirl, well the biopsies do cause tissue damage so some bleeding is normal. My bleeding stopped within 24h but this might be normal for you since you had discharge before. you could always call the radiology office that did your biopsy and ask them about your bleeding.

When do you see your doctor for results?

This day has dragged like you wouldn't believe. I keep checking my phone every few minutes to see if they're calling with results. They had said 2-3 days, most likely Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, so I'm still in the window of "I'm not going to call them...I'm not going to call them" haha!

I'm hoping this means everything is benign, since I haven't gotten a call yet. One of my friends had a biopsy done one afternoon, and they called her to let her know it was DCIS by 9:00 the next morning - different doctors/groups, though, from what I've been going to.

Sorry to hear your news, ashleyhikes. Hang in there. This is the really sucky part - the finding out & waiting & wondering what next. It gets better.

I had my CNB on Tuesday. Expecting results Monday ("maybe" tomorrow). It's my 5th CNB and all have basically been fibroadenomas so am hopeful that this one will be the same. (Have also had 5 cysts aspirated and an excisional biopsy in 2012.)

Am feeling frustrated that virtually every mammogram and US now shows something that needs to be poked, prodded or worried about. Considering sending my records from last 6 years or so to another pathologist or breast health center for second opinion just to see if there's anything else I should be doing. My GS says that it's perfectly normal and nothing unusual to have required so much scanning and biopsy, but I'm not sure. (She's a general surgeon not a breast specialist.)

Hang in there momto3sons ( I also have three kids :-) ) and everyone here. What a process we all go through!

I found out my results - biopsy came back benign!!! It showed a radial scar and either atypical ductal hyperplasia or atypical lobular hyperplasia (I can't remember what the nurse said...should have written it down), and my surgeon does want to have it removed. So I meet with her on Monday to go over next steps.

I'm scheduled for the excisional biopsy on 2/22. The follow-up appointment with my BS went well. She said the radial scar and ADH is just 2 mm, so it's pretty tiny. At this point she doesn't feel like I need to start on Tamoxifen, but we can reevaluate if the biopsy comes back with anything more serious.
