pathology following lumpectomy

my initial biopsy showed grade 3 ER+ PgR+HER+ 3 and marked with titanium marker. Size of biopsy was 7mm. Initial mammogram and ultrasound size was 6 mm

Had a lumpectomy on 1-25 w negative sentinel nodes and path on tissue removed with titanium marker as showering no cancer cells. F/ u mammograms and ultrasound cannot find mass due to inflammation from surgery.

All radiation on hold and wait for a week for inflammation to resolve and some healing and then do imaging again.

Has anyone ever had this happen? My thought is maybe initial core biopsy got it all vs surgeon missed it as marker moved due to hematoma

Hi there Joycemp. Yep, the most optimistic scenario is that the mass was completely removed during biopsy. I had two tumors, and that's what happened to the smaller one, which was 4 mm. So given that the titanium marker was removed, it makes sense that is what happened to you too. I will keep my fingers crossed that when the inflammation calms down your US is still clear.

Or it could be that the immune system woke up, being triggered by the biopsy injury, and took care of the matter.
