I just want Aurora to know that I am thinking of her and praying for her and her family.
-
The thing is, I’m only on an AI and endocrine therapy. No chemo. Think these will help with lymph node mets, too
-
Lynne, thank you for letting us know about Aurora. Please add me to her list of sincerely caring well-wishers. She's in my prayers.
Raisin, I too was in absolute agony when first dx'd with diffuse and extensive bone mets. Multiple pain meds, lidocaine patches, constant heating pad. Some of my pain was due to undx'd fractures -- first rib (dx'd w/PET scan); then femur & pelvis that were eventually dx'd when the pain became unbearable. Those required surgery. But my all over burning and aching pain got so much better after my first line tx, which was Anastrozole, kicked in. And when I had progression on that med and was suddenly in a lot of pain again, my next regimen, Faslodex + Ibrance, thankfully made a huge difference. So don't despair or feel like the pain you're experiencing is part of the process and will only get worse. But you need to be sure you don't have any undx'd fractures, and hopefully whatever tx you're on will address the rest of the pain. In the meantime, be sure you are taking your pain meds as RX'd. If you are waiting for the pain to resurface, you're waiting too long. You need to stay ahead of the pain. And if the whatever pain meds you're on aren't working, ask to try something different. We all react differently to pain meds, and sometimes it takes the expertise of a palliative care doc (over an onc) to figure out your needs and get you relief. Don't be afraid to ask for additional help.
Hugs to all ~ Deanna

Just wanted to share this poem written by my daughter in her marketing class. They had to “brand” themselve...
“I Am a Brand”
By C. Wess
I am not who you think
Or who I think either
Sure, I'm a girl, a classmate, a believer
A sister, a friend, I have all this to offer
But mainly who I am is simply my mother's daughter
See, I was raised by a woman
Who was strong, and independent
Caring, hardworking
Who held no resentment
She's struggled, and overcame
The most gracious of all dancers
The calm before the storm
And then there came cancer
I was in fifth grade
And didn't really understand
Why mama was always sleeping
Or why people were always asking how I am
The doctor's office quickly became a second home
Her hair, her happiness, her good spirit
It was all gone
But that only lasted a year
And it's okay because she won
The battle of her life,
Thankfully the cancer was done
8 years went by and I grew up
almost forgetting that year of my life
my mom went back to being my mom
and everything just seemed right
I grew up and my mom
Easily became my best friend
I don't say that lightly,
Because she was truly a godsend
My foolish mistakes, the worst of all days
She always made me feel better
And I grew up knowing that there was sincerely
Nothing that me and my mom couldn't weather
Well in May of last year,
We kind of hit a slump
Mother's day was the day
that she told me that she found another lump
And I was frozen in that moment
Because I'm old enough to understand
That when cancer takes a second round,
There's no hope, it really is the end
This woman spent 20 years living her life for me
And I'll spend the remainder living mine for her
So you may see a classmate, maybe even a friend
But when I look in the mirror, I see my mother's daughter
-
Gulp! Sigh! Just had a good cry. So true. So sad. I hate cancer. So very much. I Don't post much here these days, but that poem drew me in. I very much read poetry. Thank you for sharing. ~M~

Beautiful poem!

What a beautiful, beautiful poem! My daughter was in 6th grade when I was diagnosed and left for university the month I learned I was Stage IV. I'm crying, but feeling so very grateful for my daughter and for yours. Theresa

There are no words! I lost my mom to bc when she was 42 and I was 19. She only lived 1 1/2 years after her diagnosis. I am 5 years since dx of bc and 3 1/2 stage IV. All I want is to be here for my dtr so she doesn’t have to miss me during the most important times of her life. I’ve made 3 that my mom missed- college graduation marriage and 1 st baby. Just hoping and praying to make many more for her!

Lovely, Swess....go hug your child (again)...

Hi all, I've had the results from my scans and the CT scan shows that, after a year of treatment with Ibrance and Letrozole, my organs are still clear. The bone scan is still showing stable disease so I'm delighted. Regression would have been better but stable is good enough for me. My oncologist was obviously a little bit disappointed but he reminded (himself mainly, I think!) that I do have a lot of disease in my bones and that Ibrance/Letrozole is a slow acting treatment regime. But I'm happy. I can go about my life and wait for the next scan in three months.

What a beautiful poem, Swess. Thank you for sharing.
