Neoadjuvant chemo Navelbine/Gemzar
I come back from MO. He told me that my Stage IIIC recurrence needs the following neoadjuvant chemo for the next 6 months: Navelbine/Gemzar. I navigated the forum and see that these chemo are only applied to Stage IV BC. I am freaking out about what this mean. I had previously a petscan (no mets), my CA 15-3 is 12 (as it always have been), and the CT scan shows 5 lumps in my breast (12 + 6 + 5 + 3 +2 mm) + 1 node (6 mm) in my armpit.
I had severe neuropathy from my Taxol chemo in 2014 (I recovered pretty well easaly) + allergy. MO told me I can never get a new taxane chemo for the rest of my life...
Anyone who experienced a such regimen at Stage III?

Hi Misstic- probably because you had a severe reaction to taxol. A lot of us with stage III BC are or have been on Xeloda which used to be a chemo for stage IV BC. I would ask my MO for further information. Best wishes to you.

Thank you @beauz.
Actually, first he said Xeloda, Endoxan and Methotrexate but when we discuss about the Petscan which showed that I have a problem in the colon and need a colonoscopy to assess it is only diverticulum, he switched immediately to Navelbine/Gemzar...

Xeloda is also a chemo for bowel cancer… it doesn't matter what chemo you have as long as it works. Are you planning to have surgery and radiation after chemo? Take it easy.
-
Yes, the doctors plan to do surgery and radiation after chemo.
I went to a second hospital for a second opinion about my case.
-
Misstic- I am glad to hear you had a second opinion. I just remembered that a lot of people here talked about going on Ibrance soon after finishing their main treatments.

Here is some news about my regimen.
Like for Taxol, I had an allergic reaction to this chemo: itching spots on my cleavage, short breath and allergic sinusitis (causing eyes swelling)... My MO feared an anaphylactic shock so he tried one round with only Gemzar. It seems that the sinusitis is caused by the Gemzar and the other symptoms by the Navelbine.
I see him next friday. I will see what he decides for the rest of the treatment.

I had Xeloda and Navelbine as adjuvant chemo. It was started when I was close to the end of my radiation treatments.

Did you get a recurrence like me @sbelizabeth ?
I don't see it in your profil.

A feedback about this uncommon regimen. It works perfectly on me: I started my journey with 5 tumors and 1 lymph node. I finished my chemo and had a mastectomy + 7 lymph nodes off: they found absolutely nothing but scar tissue.
In addition to this regimen, I did a keto diet and had CBD (1 mg per kilo).
I am officially NED but I still have to do radiotherapy and 10 years of new type of hormonal therapy (previously on Tamoxifen).

Woo! Well done! Very happy for you! Good luck with the rest of treatment.
