Hello, newly diagnosed and wondering about those who may have current implants and waiting surgery. I'm opting for mas with expander vs lumpectomy with radiation as I understand my existing implant will be affected and cause me issues. Any comments or thoughts? Big surgery but I don't think it can be avoided ... I'm also not a perfectly controlled diabetic

Sorry to hear. I am in a similar situation, but slightly further along in process. Just had single MX. Contemplating either (a) stacked DIEP on 1 side, plus implant exchange and collagen on other side vs (b) new implants on both sides with fat grafting. Talked to 4 plastic surgeons, with two proposing one option, and the other 2 recommending the other, all promising symmetry. Would love to hear what others may have done for reconstruction following single MX where nondiseased breast has implant. These are all top docs in major metropolitan area.

I am 8 weeks out from BMX and because I had implants prior to my diagnosis I was a good candidate for direct to implant. I was diagnosed with Pagets and DCIS so knew that unless something was found in the final pathology I would not need any further treatment. It was emotionally positive for me to wake up with breasts that were similar to what I had, I liked the idea of only needing one surgery and both the recovery and my results have been truly amazing. I know it's not widely done and not available in every area but definitely worth looking into.
