Diep flap plus thigh tissue- scars down both thighs
I had my surgery December 20, 2018. I see my PS to talk about stage 2 on February 8. I've been trying to find people talking about the scars that run 15 inches down the back of the leg!
I have always been a shorts person. I'm a Cali girl living in the South due to my husband being active duty. I'm freaking out about stage 2. My husband will be deployed for one thing and the other is one of my breasts still has hard places. I've been trying to massage them. I look gross right now!
I'm blessed that I did make the right decision because the pathologist found 2 small invasive tumors in my “good" breast. Of course we didn't get any lymph nodes from that side so they are genetically testing the tumor then we'll go from there.
My friend came here from Texas 5 days ago to cook and freeze meals for us; yes she's an angel. She left today. Why am I sitting here in tears??!! This will be like our 7th 6 month deployment and we have talked with our neighbors so I have their support plus I let a couple women at church know. But I am afraid. I can't put my finger on it. Sorry for this. I really just want to know why I have such big scars up the back of my legs.
Thanks for l

so sorry you’re feeling so emotional. They say recent surgeries can cause some emotional ups and downs so perhaps that’s it combined with the deployment stress and not being happy with your scars. Hopefully your PS will do scar revision on them during stage 2. Did they use any muscle from the thighs? What did they call that part of the procedure? Obviously the tummy part was called DIEP

hi Lula73,
I’m sure the surgery is making me a big baby. The surgeon didn’t say what it was. I thought it was the pap flap but that incision would run the other direction under my butt cheek. No muscle was taken in the legs. I think some of my worry is all the revisions needed. I don’t think stage 2 will hurt as bad as before since they won’t be going as deep.
I was having problems posting here. I finally thought of using my phone instead of iPad!!!
Thank yo

Rest easy on stage 2. Stage 2 is typically far easier than stage 1. Less painful, less time in hospital, shorter recovery time, etc. I would definitely ask what type of flap he did using your thighs. I can’t find anything at all online about a flap that has a vertical incision down the backs of the thighs. Perhaps it’s a new technique he is working on to take mainstream?

thank you for your support. I see the plastic surgeon February 8 so I’ll let you know what he says.
Meanwhile I will figure out how to update my info to post on the 2017/2018 diep flap page
