What pain medications were you prescribed? The nurse said my surgeon usually prescribes Norco. I've never taken that only Tylenol 3 once after a root canal. I'm really hoping that I don't have to take any narcotics after leaving the hospital only NSAIDS and/or Tylenol.

Ask about Tramadol - there's a good thread here somewhere on use of it during surgery rather than narcotics but it's also helpful for the first couple of days after surgery. I think I switched to Tylenol by the 3rd day if not earlier.

I was prescribed and needed Percocet. I tried to go without it and had a nurse friend (who upon discovering the amount of pain I was experiencing when she called to check on me) strongly urge me to take it. I probably took it solid for 3 or 4 days after talking with her, then sporadically, then after I went back to work (about 10 days post surgery), I would take one when I got home so it would kick in before doing my stretching. It didn't help with the weird snb nerve pain you get (honestly nothing really helps), but helped with the incisional pain, which was significant for the snb area. My lumpectomy incision didn't hurt much after the first couple of days.

gb2115 and Hopeful82014 -Thanks for the suggestions regarding medication. I took Tramadol once for back pain and I was stuck in bed for 12 hours due to being so dizzy, but I'll ask surgeon about it. I suppose I could take the medication for nausea along with it. I've never taken percocet before. I'm aware the nerve pain as I had it when the leg lymph nodes were taken out. No medication helped and I didn't want to be started on nerve pain medication and it takes about 2 weeks to get any relief anyways.

gb2115, I'm impressed you went back to work in 10 days. Wow.
