Nipple Delay surgery & pain

Hi everyone!

This is my first post. I was all set and ready for a bilateral mastectomy but wanted to spare my nipples. Being my breasts are too large I was told I needed to have a nipple delay surgery. Since I was having that done my surgeon wanted to do the lumpectomy also.

Surgery went great! She used these pain pads under the skin so I had no pain for days. When I went for my follow up appointment I was told great news! They must've removed all the DCIS during the biopsy because there were no cancer cells in my lumpectomy. and the tissue samples taken behind the nipples were clean. SO we are now rethinking mastectomy. I have appointments with a medical oncologist & medical radiologists to find out if I need radiation and or hormone blockers.

So here I am just over 2 weeks after nipple delay surgery and I am so sore and in pain. I am wondering if anyone else out there has had this procedure and how long the pain lasted. Thanks!

Have you asked your doctor for pain medication? Sometimes providers wait to see if you ask. I had that experience in the hospital after my first surgery. I woke up in terrible pain. When the nurse came around she said, ”You must have a really high tolerance for pain! It turns out she was waiting for me to ask. I had no idea - I was trying not to be a difficult patient or something. I talked to the doctor about it when I saw him next. He was so mad! His orders were for every three hours and that It should be offered to me without asking. Now I make sure to moan and groan and watch the clock. You should not have to be in pain. Ask your doctor what the plan is for pain. Maybe she just forgot to write you a prescription.
