Girlfriend getting surgery and I’m scared

I’m looking for help on how to deal with my girlfriend and her situation.

She’s discovered a lump in her breast and, after testing, it’s been determined it’s not malignant but needs to be removed.

Ever since she got this news she has completely changed.

We talked all the time, now I barely hear from her.

She said she needed time to decompress but it’s been a week. I hate being away from her and feel I need to be there.

I’m scared our relationship is in dire straits. I don’t want her to feel she’s alone in this, but I don’t want to stress her out.

So it’s a toss between leaving her alone or going out of my way to be there.

I want to know if you’ve been in this situation and what you did, or how you felt, and what I need to do to.

Stress can make people behave in strange ways. It was the opposite for me. I'm currently going through a scare, and have an excisional biopsy scheduled in a week. When this first started, my husband sort of shut down. He was short with me,kept to himself. I talked to him about it,and he said he's just really scared. It's gotten better since we've talked, as he didn't even realize he was behaving differently. Just be there for her, and give her space. Be sure to let her know that you are there for her, and try to be patient. I hope everything works out.
