Accuracy of MRI in predicting invasion in DCIS

I found this article to be interesting, and how MRIs are becoming more accurate in finding IDC hidden (occult) in DCIS before excision.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC40366...

I was sent for a contrast MRI after a core biopsy detected DCIS. I didn't realize I was in a small subset of women sent for testing due to suspicion of invasion. Or maybe it's become standard protocol (the article was published 5 years ago).

I feel a little better but I won't know for sure until it is removed, I suppose.

Interesting. I happened across this post as I was searching for info regarding MRI's. I was diagnosed with ADH after a core biopsy last month. I'm scheduled for an excisional biopsy February 2. My doctor sent me for an MRI, which suprised me with just the ADH diagnosis. Fortunately, there were no new suspicious areas detected on the MRI. Would they be able to tell if it was something other than ADH just by the MRI?

    Hello,

I do think that MRI is becoming standard after biopsy and before surgery. Without it, one might choose lumpectomy only to find out the DCIS is multi-focal, and then need more surgery.

My MRI didn't indicate anything invasive, or any new suspicious areas.

When it came down to the surgical result, there was a tiny amount of DCIS surrounded by hyperplasia. I don't think the MRI can distinguish between the two.
