Biopsy bening, but the lump feels bigger.
Hi!
In December I had a core biopsy done on my left breast and the results were benign (yay!), and I think the explanation was basically bunched up breast tissue. Why this is now suddenly so pronounced, I don't know. I have recently noticed that it feels bigger. Could this just be scar tissue that developed?
I believe i have a follow up in six months and in the meantime I am going to request my records be sent to me so I can read the complete report.

Hi Cleo. I'm not an expert, but yes it could be scar tissue. Good idea to get all of your reports (biopsy, mammogram, ultrasound, MRI if you had it) since often doctors don't mention the benign "lumps and bumps" they find along the way. Best of luck to you.

Cleo, its likely nothing to worry about, but if it's still there in 6 months, request another biopsy. My "benign" cyst continued to grow but because there was nothing on imaging, it was passed off as scar tissue. I waited 2 years before demanding another biopsy. By that time it was 5 cm - invasive lobular carcinoma. I'm kicking myself for not asking for another biopsy earlier.
Best wishes

Yes, I will see what they say in six months. There is a part of me that fears that they missed something in the biopsy, but that most likely just my head messing with me. I will try to keep track how big it feels, boarder wise, until my appointment.
So did you have a biopsy the first time and they ruled it a benign cyst? -
I had a complex cyst that was aspirated. The fluid was sent to pathology and came back as benign. I think that if they are calling it scar tissue, it must be a common occurrence, and you probably have nothing to worry about. But if it continues to grow or change over the next 6 months, it would be wise to request another biopsy. I was lulled into thinking it was ok if it didn't show up on imaging, only to find out that ILC is very difficult to detect by mammo or ultrasound. Even MRI was not accurate. Problem is that ILC tends to grow in sheets rather than a lump so is more difficult to detect with mammo.
Best wishes! -
They have not told me it is scar tissue, simply said from the biopsy it was benign and they think it is just bunched up breast tissue that due to my age, 40, and my breast aging is suddenly more pronounced (I added the suddenly part.
)
But, since I had it done in December it feels bigger to me. So, I am wondering if it is possible for scar tissue to develop where the tissues were removed (not the incision mark). I might just call tomorrow to see what they say. I am not stressing and I need to set up the six month appointment anyway.
Oh and it was not showing up well on film, to definitively say what it was, though I could clearly feel it. MRI showed nothing, Mammo missed it, etc. Finally, at a second breast center, one of the top three in my city, it showed up on u/s.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it!
