Inflamed liver on PET scan

Options

I underwent breast cancer surgery for estrogen-driven cancer last June - less than an inch, two lymph nodes positive, therefore diagnosed Stage 2. I underwent four chemo treatments and had 30 radiation treatments. Just had my PET scan follow-up last week which showed no cancer but my liver was inflamed. The only medication additions have been over-the-counter Biotin (taking 1000mcg daily) to help with hair growth and a prescription estrogen blocker. I will be having an MRI next week to find out what's going on with the liver. Doctor said she saw no tumors or indication of cancer. Has this happened to anyone else? Could the two medications be at fault? Thank you.

    Hi,

I've been getting PET Scan since my melanoma diagnosis/surgery. Did the PETscan show uptake in your liver? The tests are very sensitive but only show if the fdg pools in that area, it can't see what it is. That's why they have you doing an MRI. I've experienced several false positives, meaning that there was uptake in an area that wasn't expected. So every one of those areas has to be checked out. Hopefully, it isn't anything but I know it's scary.

Lots of things can cause liver inflammation, including some medications. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's the estrogen-blocker right now. I had liver inflammation when a gallstone escaped from my gallbladder and ended up blocking my bile duct. Good luck!
