Which specialty doctor develops your treatment plan for the medications? Is it a team of doctors or is there a special doctor just for chemotherapy?

For cancer treatment, that would be your Medical Oncologist.

For other stuff, or maintenance medicines for other stuff, that would probably be your Primary Care Provider.

    How are you, Veeder14?

    Icietla,

Thanks for writing back right away and asking how I am. I'm getting really stressed out and anxious about surgery and after treatment stuff because I haven't seen the surgeon yet (app't next Thursday), and no one from the cancer clinic is calling me back. There's a referral so I can talk with an oncology Social Worker but it hasn't been approved yet. Physically I'm fine and doing as many active things I can while I can still do it.

Keep busy. Keep getting ready for your surgery. If you have surgery options, and if surgery is to be the first part of your treatment, and if you are already decided on the type surgery you want, then it can be planned at the time you meet with your Surgeon.

They may have a policy against informing patients by phone. I understand your frustrations about that and their other *communication problems.* Having all the available information helps us with expectations -- knowing better about what we might expect or should expect.

    Thanks Icietla,

I'm trying to get services and stuff organized before surgery especially some help at home since my back problems just complicate all this. I've got a list of questions for the surgeon ready and will request pain management speak with me before the surgery date. I have such issues with pain management, can't deal with the side effects of narcotics for very long. This scares me the most. I've never taken any except what was given to me during past surgeries I've had even though my previous surgeons sent me home with a prescription.
