Officially diagnosed today
I just got home from meeting with the radiologist and nurse navigator. Positive for breast cancer, 8 mm mass in left breast, invasive, does not look like it has gone to the lymph nodes but further testing will be done at time of lumpectomy. Still waiting on further tests from the biopsy, but they will not be available until Monday. He said because of the tumor size being small, he felt confident that I had a 98 - 99% five-year survival chance. Overwhelmed but feeling okay. Has anyone else had a similar-sized mass that was invasive and it all turned out okay? I need some positivity.....

Hi. I had a 7cm mass and it hadn’t gone into my lymph nodes, if that helps and I have been cancer free for 7 years
So sorry for your diagnosis, but it sounds like they caught it early, which is very good.

Mine measured 1.2 cm on MRI and Ultrasound but after my Lumpectomy it was actually 9mm. I had 3 lymph nodes removed and all 3 were negative. Did 33 rounds of radiation and now I’m on Tamoxifen. Sounds like you caught it early. I’m 2 months away from my 1 year diagnosis anniversary and I promise it does get easier. The beginning was definitely hard.

I had an 7 mm mixed IDC/ILC tumor with a 4 mm next to it. Had a simple lumpectomy, three weeks of radiation, and now I'm taking Tamoxifen. NOT the most fun four months I've ever had (smile), but I made it through and you can too. Just tell us how we can help.
And do ask if you're eligible for the short-course (3-4 weeks) of radiation rather than the standard course of 5-7 weeks.

Considering what other members face, you have one of the best dx! Take heart in it. No lymph node involvement, it's small. And be careful to read between the lines when you research: often that 5 year survival rate is based on no treatment at all, so most likely you can add years and years to that figure.
Sorry you have to be here, but you've got a great long life ahead of you after this bump in the road.
Hugs,
Claire in AZ
