Hi,

i was just wondering if any of you had biopsy of "clumped" enhancement and if so what was the diagnosis? It only appears on MRI, everything is negative on digital mammo and u/s. Mine is 9mm and it is sensitive to T2. So i guess it should be good, but i don't know. I guess it's not that inportant.

Everytime i type "clumped" it leads me to DCIS. Althought it could be something bening i would love to hear from people who experienced it.

Thank you so much.

Hi Kam:  I don't know if I can be of much help but in October 2008 I had an MRI due to a thickening that could be felt but did not show up on u/s.  On mammo it came up as "an increased area of density".  The findings of the mri were: "large, patchy area of progressive and clumped appearing enhancement".  I was given a birad IV (suspicious).  They biopsied two separate areas and I was diagnosed with a benign condition called PASH (pseudoangiomatous Stromal Hyperplasia) and told to follow-up in 6 months.  I just had my 6 month follow-up mri yesterday and am waiting for the results (which will hopefully be the same as last time).  Are you aware of your birad score and was a biopsy recommended?  I will keep you in my thoughts but just know that a finding of "clumped enhancement" was benign  in my case.  Good luck!!

    hi Clare,

thank you so much for your respond. Yes i was given Birad 4 as well. Altought my primary Dr. told me that all it means is that they want to do biopsy and is more for insurance and billing purposes. I guess they are required to put suspisious in order to get biopsy. He said more important is description of what they see. But i dont know. Sometimes i feel like they don't tell you the whole thing. I'm having biopsy next thursday am.

That "clumped word scares me so much because whenever i google "clumped" it showes me all cancer stuff.(DCIS). I know it can be bening or high risk enhancement(ADH) but i cant stop thinking about those 20% chance of beeng something bad. I'm sitting in front of my computer and diagnos myself :-)) isn't crazy?? i think i'm going out of my mind.

Thank you and good luck to you too !!!!!!!!

    Kam,

I also had "clumped enhancement" that only showed up on MRI.  Birads IV also. The radiologist was certain it was DCIS, but pathology came back as fibrocystic changes.  I had BC in the other breast 2 yrs earlier.

Good luck with your biopsy.  MRI does show a lot of false positives. I know this is a scary time right now.   Please let us know how things turn out.

Kimber -- I was just diagnosed with LCIS on right of 5 cm. Did you have yours surgically removed? The MRI showed "clumped enhancements" surround it ... and also "lots of cell activity" in the other breast. I'm meeting with a surgeon, cause the radiologist suggested excision biopsy (lumpectomy) and to get more tissue to examine. Gee, I'm kinda thinking that taking out 5 cm is going to remove half my boob! (I'm small-breasted.) And I, too, am googline this clumped enchancement phrase and finding all kinds of stuff about DCIS and ILC.

Lee-----it is a good idea to have an excisional biopsy to make sure nothing more serious (DCIS or invasive bc) is in there along with the LCIS. Praying they find nothing more than the LCIS.

    Iwallyn, hello and welcome.

As this is an older thread from 2009 I went back and looked at the OP's posting history. She had an MRI guided biopsy and the results were B9.
