I had bilateral mastectomy with pedical tram flap reconstruction on December 21. I have large painful and hard rolls of swelling beneath my armpits. PS says it is normal and will go away. Anyone have ideas for softening the hardness? So tired of it. Still have in four drains...this is my first post-thank you!!

Ugh. Very common and VERY annoying!  Mine felt like I had a large puppy under each arm. I couldn't even put my arms straight down by my sides. Drove me crazy! The good news is it didn't last forever, maybe about a year. My "puppies" are just soft skin in my armpits now.

    BTW, I love your dog!

Thank you! We’re you able to do anything to help with the pain? My doc is no help...

    Hi There,

Sorry you are here and having trouble. I share the same surgery date as you. 12/21 for a bilateral mastectomy with node biopsy on the right side. I have a stitched up lump in my underarm where the node biopsy was. It's not too hard.

I also had tissue expanders put in as part of my reconstruction. I'm not sure where my pain is coming from (double mastectomy or tissue expanders or both) but I just posted a new thread to see if there are other options for pain relief that others have had success with.

Hang in there and call your Dr. - which I will do too.
