Hadfields Procedure yesterday
Hi I'm new so hope I'm posting in the right place. I had total duct removal yesterday from left breast but I'm in agony in that breast. My nipple and boob feels like it's on fire. Is this normal. My nipple is swollen and black bruised. I only got discharged a few hours ago following complications from the anaesthetic. Just looking for reassurance really x

Hugs, Kriss.
Did they tell you to use ice packs and advil? Have they given you better pain meds? I would call if you are not managing your pain and have them give you something. I'm not a big believer in "toughing it out."

No to ice or Advil, just paracetamol, naproxen and oramorph. I'm only literally 24 hours post op so maybe I'm expecting too much too soon but the bruising is awful my whole nipple and boob is black and blue x

For the first few days I would suggest Tylenol rather than Advil, Alleve, or naproxen, which can affect the bleeding/bruising. Definately use ice packs in the first few days also. This will help to keep the swelling and discomfort down. In a pinch I have used frozen peas in a snack size Baggie if you do not have an ice pack available.
Also wearing a good supportive bra or sports bra helps tremendously. I would even wear it at nighttime or at least a tight fitting camisole. If you are still sore after 4-5 days then you can use a warm compress instead of the ice.
Also do not do any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for several days as this might cause new bleeding
When I had my stereotactic biopsy I had horrible black and purple on 2/3 of my breast and developed a golf ball size hematoma, too. These things really helped me in my healing process and I hope it will help you too.

Well unfortunately I got an infection in my breast 24 hours after I was discharged. My boob felt very warm and was a little red then I started to feel hot, sick and dizzy and by the time I had got to the doctors my whole breast was red, swollen and angry. Luckily the antibiotics have kicked in pretty quickly and the redness has receded massively but still flares up a little and I just feel like I have a virus. The area that was red and swollen has resulted in some pretty ugly brushing and I now look a little like Bart Simpson and am a fetching yellow colour yet my nipple remains a black colour which I'm sure is probably bruising but I am a little concerned. Are we allowed to post photos so I can get other people's opinions?
