What surgery is right for me?

I was diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 triple negative breast cancer. Tumor size is approximately 1.5-2 cm. The tumor is surrounded with up to 8 cm of usual hyperplasia tissue. I am 40 years old. Undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy with adriomycin and cytoxan followed by taxol. Is a lumpectomy still an option or should mastectomy be completed due to the surrounding hyperplastic tissue. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

    Hi Laraj-

We want to welcome you to our community! We're sorry you find yourself here, but we're glad you've joined us and hope you find support here. You'll likely get a lot of different responses to this, as everyone's case is different, and the decision to have a lumpectomy or mastectomy can be very personal and vary widely based on lifestyle. What are your doctors recommending? There's a lot to factor in, but we hope that some of the info and experiences you hear here can help you make a decision that's right for you.

I would recommend discussing this with both your breast surgeon and your plastic surgeon. Your options for reconstruction may affect your decision too. Have you done genetic testing yet? This should also factor in to your decision.
