Hi Everyone!..I am 27 years old, I have three children, 6,5,&4. I was diagnosed with IDC a little over a month ago. I am two weeks out from my surgery and so far healing very well. I had a nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and a sentinel node biopsy which ended up being an axillary node dissection because the sentinel node was positive. In two weeks I will be having a port put in and will begin 12 weeks of Chemotherapy which will follow with radiation and then I will be put on Tamoxifen for 10 years after that. I still haven't fully came to terms with what is happening(how do you??I don't think anyone could ever possibly prepare for something like this). This all came as a shock to me because I have no family history and do not carry a gene. I just received my pathology report a few days ago, I am Stage IIIA because of the size of my tumor and that it spread to 3 out of 22 of the nodes removed. My anxiety is threw the roof right now, I wish someone would just tell me this is all just a bad dream! I was pretty positive until I found out I was at a stage 3. I know that there are many people worse off than me but I don't want to die!I know that may sound selfish, but i'm not done living this life and I want the opportunity to watch my children grow into adults. Hearing positive stories makes it easier, and I know that I need to stay positive, its just hard. At this point I am just taking it one day at a time.

Hey Mags,
I agree with Madison get a second opinion. 6 months is too long to wait.
I'm a bit older than you (35 yrs old now), but I felt a hard lump which just showed up as a dark shadow on ultrasound and nothing on mammo. I was told to go back in 6 months and I knew something wasn't right. About 4 months in I started to notice orange peel and dimpling esp when I lifted my arms up and the lump got really hard, could feel it when I lied on my bed. I got another referral and they went to town on me because they noticed lymph nodes had now lit up on ultra. I was DX stage 3. If you can still feel a lump, don't wait around it's not worth it and don't get fobbed off cos your young. I hate it when you have to wait for results over the weekend, time literally stands still. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

30F Diagnosed on 11/17 w IDC stage 1b, 1.4cm, er+/pR+, her2-, grade 1. Surgery on 11/22 SNx4 negative. Oncotype 23(inconclusive). Neg for brca1/2. No fam history. Never too BCP. Planning to freeze my eggs in case i need chemo since I'm not married but do have a loving supportive boyfriend. My oncologist recommends chemo, then rxt and tamoxifen.I'm going to get a second opinion at Dana Farber in a few days. What was your decision to why you girls decided to get chemo? Thanks!
-
Following this! I am 32, but I feel like I can relate to the 20 somethings better since I have no kids yet and am facing a lot of the same issues. Getting my oncotype back on Tuesday. Hoping for no chemo but I guess you never know. It's a big decision, especially when you are young. Love ya all!

Hello everyone,
I just thought I would reach out in case there are other youngin's out there that might also be floundering. I'm 27 and was diagnosed December of 2016. I was not planning on children before my diagnosis, so fertility concerns have been lower on my list. I am, however, currently in the middle of my PhD in genetics. I had planned on bouncing around between post-doctoral positions for quite some time after I get my degree (hopefully within the next year or two). Now I find myself wanting to stay where I am since I'm conveniently close to a rather amazing cancer centre. Now that the current round of treatment is over it feels like everything changed, yet everything is the same. The sense of "now what?" is a little overwhelming at times...
On a different note, if anyone has questions about genetic factors (BRCA1/2 etc) or you find a scientific paper and would like help deciphering it, please feel free to message me. I am not a medical doctor, but I would like to help others navigate the science-jargon if I can.

hey I'm only 24 andjjust found out I have b.c. I have 2 young kids and I'm scared to death. I don't have anyone to really relate to. so I am hoping to find friends on here. I don't know what kind of cancer yet. I just found out about it yesterday (friday). I have appts. all week to find out my plan on how to attack it.

I hope this thread is still alive. I am 19 years old and got diagnosed with noninvasice low grade DCIS.

Although I'm now 32, I feel like I belong to this group due to my delayed life stage all thanks to cancer... lol.
When I got diagnosed, I just turned 30 as a newly wed girl. I had some weird nipple retraction when I was 28-29, but I disregarded it because I thought it meant breast aging. It feels great not to look like a cancer patient anymore. I finished my last surgery last month and my chemocurl is disappearing! I survived through 1.5 years of intensive treatments because I couldn't die before my parents who I love very much. They even retired early to take care of me..
This year, I'm studying to go back to school. Due to side effects and low white blood counts, I cannot work in a lab with carcinogens, pathogens or other types of microorganisms. I cannot have kids because I'm on tamoxifen (and I need to be on it because of my risk), but I have two rodent pets, awesome nephew and niece. I would love to have kids and I pray to God everyday that I want healthy kids in the near future.
While I'm on tamoxifen and childless, I plan to get a doctoral degree to take care of sick people including cancer patients. I don't feel too old to go back to school and I see this as an opportunity. please pray for me :-) Thinking of you all!

xtraordinary I feel the same kind of. I found my lump last may and was diagnosed last summer with triple neg at 29, but just turned 30 this month. My primary care doctor wasn't concerned about my lump that showed up out of nowhere, said it was most likely a fibroadenoma and I could go get a scan if it made me feel better. Glad I did. I had four cycles of AC last summer, a lumpectomy last october, and just finished 12 cycles of taxol 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am starting rads soon too. Alot has happened since diagnosis, I got married, finished my bachelors degree in nursing, and I am planning our wedding reception for this summer. I was too scared to do IVF because it would have delayed my chemo by three weeks and my insurance wouldn't cover it so I have been getting monthly zoladex shots to sheild my ovaries so we can have kids somewhere down the line.
Congrats on getting back to school! That is too bad about the low blood counts, that is one of the reasons I am wary of going back to work, I have been neutropenic for most of the past 3 months even while getting neupogen shots. I am having labs checked this wednesday to see if my neutrophils have gone back up.
I hope everyone is having a good day!
