My Christmas present this year was a breast cancer diagnosis! I think Santa hates me. :)

Right breast, IDC, don't know stage, grade, size of mass (although the dr mentioned 5 cm at one point but it's bigger than that, I think). Had bone scan and CT, it hasn't spread but unclear on the lymph nodes around the breast so I had a PET scan this morning. I meet tomorrow w/ my doctor to discuss treatment. I am not looking forward to chemo for the obvious reasons, but also because I've spent a lot of time and money on my hair and for the first time, at 52, I like the way my hair looks! UGH.

Oh well. I can buy some fun wigs and stuff, I guess. I'll be on there on occasion and hope to get to know a few members. Happy New Year everyone!

Ikellyr, sorry you find yourself here but the people on this site are really great and provide a lot of support and information. This is the hardest part, the waiting. Once you have a full picture of your diagnosis and treatment plan you will feel much better. I had four rounds of chemo and it was not as bad and I had built it up to be. If your hair is important, you might want to consider cold capping. I did not do it but many women have and saved their hair during chemo. There is a thread about it and the women who cold capped are happy to share their experience. Best of luck to you.

Hi there and so sorry about your diagnosis. I would only add my two cents, which is to take it one step at a time. Size, grade and ER status are important. Then lymph node involvement is another important factor. Then you will have treatment options to research and consider. So please don't jump to worst case scenarios, even tho that is admittedly the hardest thing to do! Breathe, keep up your normal routine, and know this will take awhile. It's going to be hard at times but if you keep focused on what each day brings you will be strong and you will be fine.

And keep in touch with us - I have received so much support here it made a big, big difference.

Well, hopefully you won't need chemo. Most people do not. It takes time to make a plan. I didn't have an appt with an oncologist until 2 months after diagnosis. So I know how crazy-making that is. Hang in there. Hopefully, you'll have some answers tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
