I am a natural anxiety ridden worrier so to speak.. so not surprised to be on this message board while awaiting for results!

I'm 27 years old, and a few months ago a mass was discovered in my breast during a chest ct scan for something totally unrelated.. the ER doctor said it wasn't really brought to his attention, meaning most likely something not to be worried about but still something I would want to follow up with. The ER report from the CT scan simply stated there was a mass in the breast with the measurements (all between 2-3cm, and wider than tall).

I got an ultrasound, and the radiologist came in and looked at it and talked to me. She said it didn't look like cancer, but that since it was a little bit on the larger side she would look into whether a biopsy would be recommended vs just monitoring every 6 months. My PCP and her came to the decision to do a core needle biopsy to confirm a fibroadenoma diagnosis. I waited a few weeks to get the biopsy done because I am COMPLETELY terrified of needles. The biopsy experience itself was not bad - I literally didnt feel a thing the entire time. However, the radiologist performing the biopsy was different, and he mentioned something about the borders being a little irregular, so now I am completely freaked out.

this is my report:

Sonography was performed of the right breast. At the 1:00 position scanning5 cm from the nipple, there is a macrolobulated hypoechoic mass measuring 3.1 x 1.9 x 1.9 cm. This corresponds to palpable abnormality. Incidentally noted at the 3 o'clock position scanning 5 cm from the nipple is a circumscribed hypoechoic nodule measuring 0.8 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm.

ACR BI-RADS Assessments: BI-RADS 4 - Suspicious abnormality consider biopsy Palpable abnormality right breast corresponding to 3.1 cmmass 1 o'clock position 5 cm from the nipple; ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy is advised.

Smaller hypoechoic nodule 3 o'clock position 5 cm from the nipple can undergo 6 month sonographic follow-up.

I was supposed to be getting results today - but still nothing. I am really not sure of my family history of BC, but as far as I know - my immediate family does not have any history, but extended family does (multiple).

Any insights are helpful - just want to know whats going on!

When did you have the biopsy done? Did they say when you should be expecting the results? It normally only takes 3-5 days for results but everything seems to be held up due to the holidays. Please let us know when you do get the results and I hope they are all B9. The waiting is anxiety ridden for all of us, so we know how you feel regarding the unknown. Good luck.

Hi there JCP. That language is just a fancier way of saying what you already know: there is one mass with irregular margins, so it needed to be checked out further. Odds are that it is benign so we will send good thoughts your way.
