Hello. Diagnosed with DCIS Nov 2017 in right breast. Upcoming double mastectomy next week. Anyone out there do nipple sparing despite having nipple discharge in breast that has cancer? My doctor initially did not recommend nipple sparing but in recent appt with her she seemed to think it’s possible. Not sure what changed her opinion. I was very confused leaving her office that day. I have an email into my nurse and doc is on vacation so I’m waiting to discuss this more. Just curious if anyone with same diagnosis decided to spare the nipple. Thank you.

Aguiden~~Can I ask why you are getting Bilat Mx for DCIS in one breast  rather than a lumpectomy? Is it because of the Grade 3 ? This is all new to mesp forgive me if I don't understand.

The grade 3 is high, and my DCIS was extensive. I also had other areas of concern farther out and I was told if I opted for lumpectomy I would have to have that area biopsied to determine what was in that area. I'm also 37 years old so apparently higher risk category. I'm now 3 weeks post double mastectomy, and I'm so glad I went through with my gut. They found pre cancer cells in previously thought non cancer breast. Also found invasive cancer in DCIS cancer right breast. They also have to now go back and remove both nipples as the margins weren’t clear in that area.
