I had a lumpectomy on the 18th of this month and it's so painful. I know the lump was large and he had to cut between 4-6 inches long on my breast and under my arm to get it all. But it hurts so bad. It feels like someone is trying to rip off my arm and is somehow pulling the skin off of my back .is there anything I can do that will help ease the pain.

Did they offer you pain killers? Do you have a drain? I still have pain two years later, but yours sounds acute. If no painkillers, have you tried tylenol? Heat or ice? Or call them on Tuesday. If it's too terrible to wait then you need to go to urgent care or the ER. Maybe it's an infection....

I have taken all my pain meds. I don't have a drain. This time they closed it up. I have been alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. My husband has been keeping up with it. How often do I use ice-heat and alternating. I'll call him Tuesday it has gone from black and blue to red.

Red sounds like it could be an infection. Is the skin warm, or are you running a fever? Please keep an eye on it today and get to the ER if it seems to be getting worse. Take care

Granna, what worked for me was ice, on for 20 minutes then off for 20 minutes. I had tramadol for two days then tylenol. I alternated bras so that the pressure wasn't constant in one place. And I did exercises as soon as I was able, just gentle stretching.

I agree if it is red, warm, and you have a fever you should get checked out. They can also renew a pain meds prescription.

    Thinking good thoughts for you.

Hi Granna, google or pintrest Peri Spray. I found it helps with the swelling and healing. My lymph incision gave me a ton of pain/pressure, started using that and the lump is nearly gone now. Take care, hope that you are feeling better now.

    hi all

I have been diagnosed with intracystic papillary carcinoma of right breast...I had two surgery one to remove the lump and other to remove 12 lymph nodes. Luckily the lymph nodes came clear as this happened in oct .. last month again I did a mamo and was clear of everything... now for past one month my breast skin thickend up like orange and itchy and red... is this normal after the surgery... since it was very initial stage the doc has advised no adjuvent treatment as off now..but to closely monitor...is this change in the breast normal after surgery

I too had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 12/22. Been using Tylenol and ibuprofen alternating. Ice packs also provide relief and keep you down and quiet! The pulling and twinges are much more tolerable if i stay down, but that's tough on Christmas week! I find spacing out the time I'm up and about and staying put is really hard, and certainly not wearing the most support bra right now as well. The uncertainty of my follow-up treatments/therapies is getting to me. Still don't know the results of lymph biopsies and go back to see my surgeon on the 5th.

I'm so sorry about your cancer. One of my main problems is he didn't talk to me about the what he took out this time. I'm on norco10 already from a car accident. I broke my tail bone and ruptured a disc and since I am under a pain management contract I can't get pain medicine for any another reason. I understand the waiting is driving me crazy also. I hope you get good results on the results. Please keep me updated.
