I struggle with the trust factor

Hormone therapy article

So I’m 31, stage 3 grade 3 ER+. I do not know my percentage of ER+, nor my luminal A or B, never had a mamoprint because I was doomed for chemo from the start, also never had a Ki67 test sent because according to my MO “It won’t change the plan.”

All that being said, was told that the icing on the cake would be a 10 year sentence with tamoxifen.

I’m having a hard time trusting that tamoxifen alone is the right plan for me.

I’m wondering if there are any premenopausal women, stage 3ER+, PR/HER2- who are on tamoxifen alone? What was the rational?

Or did your MO prescribe you ovarian suppression with tamoxifen?

Or regardless of your BRCA results, did you just say “to hell with these ovaries” and get them removed?

    Hi Wonderwoman386,

I’m not stage 3, but I am on Tamoxifen And Lupron for ovarian suppression. I’m not ready to have them out yet! My understanding is that there is chance for breakthrough estrogen with the Lupron shots and the AI s are not strong enough to handle that much, so the Tamoxifen is the best option.

    Best of luck to you!

Wish I knew that answer why some recommend removal or suppression and others do not. I'm not stage 3, but taking Tamoxifen. Was not even brought up about ovarian suppression etc. I will ask that when I go back for my next visit. I still get my period..albeit it has been coming later and later but still here.

thank you Cpeachymom, Did your MO explain why you were to be on tamoxifen AND lupron? Why tamoxifen wasnt enough as a premenopausal woman?

So here’s where it gets a little complicated... my husband is a practicing Catholic, so we only use Natural Family Planning (nfp) for birth control (no I don’t have 8 kids or anything!) And I guess Tamoxifen actually causes your ovaries to overreact? (It was originally a fertility medicine I think) So I think that probably played into the decision. With both of them together, I have no periods, no cycle and no measurable estrogen. I’m essentially in full menopause.
