One TE had to be removed :(

so...my surgery was bilateral mastectomy 10/19. Because I had a breast reduction 20 years ago he was concerned about my skin and blood flow so he placed empty TE at that point. After healing I had one fill but kept showing him swelling in my left side and I had pain that was getting worse. So this Monday I showed him how I could feel the corner of the TE pushing against my thin scar area. We decided not to fill. Yesterday I woke up ans have a cold so i went to blow my nose. Then I suddenly felt wet.

My TE broke through my skin and yellow fluids were leaking. I called the doc and he suggested he could remove the TE in his office rather than have me come to the hospital for an emergency surgery.

Today I went in and got like 573 shots and he cut it out and cleaned up the scar tissue and sewed me up. And he also put in A DRAIN! After almost 7 weeks I have a new drain!

I am bummed about not having the TE in that side and being all lopsided now. This was unexpected and super annoying but given that I am not going that big, we may skip putting another one in and just look at fat grafting/implants. Who knows, this journey is a long process for me and bumpy road. Thankfully, no bumps are in my boobs. Ha.

Hi - I am sorry about all that Kahn - I know the drain has to be upsetting...my tissue expander deflated in August...literally woke up one morning and it was flat....not a good look. I had to have it replaced and it upset me as well and it pushed back plans for replacement. Kahn for sure the road is bumpy, and hopefully the road will smooth out......soon....which I know is not soon enough...

omg Peace, I am sorry to hear your experience! How does it empty?! That is crazy. I was just glad mine wasn’t that full when it had to be removed. It also gave him a chance to remove the scar tissue and weak skin and I already can see how much better the area will heal now. I’m glad to see you are ok. i hope you are healing from your recent s

Hey Kahn - Hopefully you are hanging in there - My PS said my TE was defective - and anything man made has the potential to be :-) He said it was very rare, but I have actually found the more I talk about it, the more common situations I seem to unravel among women...sooooooo????

I am healing well :-) Thanks Kahn....the hot flashes from the hyster are, well, a pain in the A**, but overall I feel really good. At first my implants were the same feeling of discomfort as my TEs... but the more time goes, the more comfortable they are getting and that is such a relief!!!!!

Lost my left TE after a rupture through necrotic skin about a month after BMX, it was out for 6 months during chemo, then replaced six weeks after the last infusion. Filled very slowly and had no further issues, and successful exchange. Hang in there!

    Kahn:

So sorry to hear about this. Reconstruction can be complicated, can't it? I had a post-op infection with nipple necrosis and if it had not cleared after MASSIVE dose of antibiotics (3), I would have lost the TE. My skin stayed red for a while and I was so fearful watching it.

I feel for you and this latest "bump". But you seem to have a GREAT attitude and, boy, is that so important during this journey.

    Hang in there!
