Invasive Ductal Carsinoma
Just diagnosised today. Dr called it aggressive and between Stage 2 and 3.
Still waiting on the reports of my negative/positive statuses. Had an MRI this afternoon. Will have a CT scan Monday. Meet the radiation oncologist the 22nd, the medical oncologist the 26th and back to the surgeon on the 5th. A lot going on and everything seems to be moving fast which is good.
I have a long road in front of me but I'll be ok. I'm more worried about my husband. He's sensitive and I know this is going to hit him hard.

I hear you. I just got my diagnosis of IDC today (been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks since I learned I had a BIRADS 5). After additional mammos and ultrasound, I had a biopsy this past Monday. No word yet on stage, grade, or hormonal status and HER. I have appointments on the 19th and 20th with the multidisciplinary team (medical oncology, radiology oncology, surgeon, social work, etc.).
The ultrasounds I've had over the past couple of weeks don't show any "gross abnormalities" in the axillary nodes, and the tumor is said to be 2.1 cm. So, I guess that's good news overall.
My husband has been taking this well, but he tends to take his lead from me. I feel pretty positive right now, but I'm still in shock.
My best wishes to you, Lucyred. Do you feel confident with the clinic and doctors where you are? I'm in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and we've got a pretty good breast cancer clinic here (Mills), but I'll go to Barnes in St. Louis or possibly MD Anderson in Houston for a second opinion if I think it's warranted.

Ilikecats, wow you seem to be the same as me regarding timing and diagnosis. My tumor is 3 cm though.
Yeah I feel good about the surgeon so far, she's definitely moving fast get me in everywhere and get things going. I am happy with the medical facility too.
I also kinda feel relief to know what it is and see things moving forward.
Good luck to you, feel free to keep in touch going forward.

Glad to "meet" you ladies and I'm glad you are both feeling up for the challenge. Once you have more information and a treatment plan you will feel much better I promise. Do let us know if you need any information or support; sometimes husbands are great and sometimes they can be another emotional load to carry. It seems to vary day to day in my house!

ILikeCats, I go to Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish. I had surgery there but treated at their satellite location in the county.
Lucyred, it good to keep things moving forward. Best of luck to you

So sorry you've both found yourself needing this site -- but it's the best place for support, encouragement and understanding.
Ilikecats: I went to MDA for a 2nd opinion and decided to do surgery there. It was in network with my insurance, so travel costs the only real issue. I'm happy to answer any questions. I also used to live in St Louis and went to Barnes (pre C) and they were terrific, too. Both great places.
Please know this road gets better as you progress along it. I promise. Right now you're in the hardest place. I'm a relative newbie, too, and totally found this to be true.
{hugs}
