I have a MO appt tomorrow and pretty sure I am going to be put on Ibrance. I have read stories about how much its costs for the drug and its not covered under Medicare. How do you go about getting this drugs without draining my bank account.

    Neogirl,

Ibrance is covered under Medicare Part D prescription programs.

Neogirl, Tina is right. Ibrance is covered under Medicare Part D, but there are substantial co-pays if you do not receive assistance. The first month, and also every January, the copay is several thousand dollars. Since that gets you through the first stage, the donut hole and all the way into the catastrophic coverage, the cost to you is less for the rest of the year. Unfortunately, even then the monthly cost is close to $600. The good news is that there is help available! You should start at your oncologist's office. Mine automatically started the process of finding help for me. They also worked with the specialty pharmacy to make sure they found everything possible. If none of the copay assistance organizations had any assistance still available, they would have contacted Pfizer directly for help. There are some income limitations. In general, if you make more than $100,000 per year, including funds from pension, 401k, IRA, and salaries. I noticed that you are from NH. I don't know where you go for treatment, but I am confident that onc's in NH and MA are used to this process and will be ready to help you.

    Hugs from, Lynne

Thanks guys for all the info. It has put my mind to rest regarding the $$ figure. I was thinking it was going to be thousands of $ out of pocket and I cannot afford that at all.

Lynne, I am in Conway NH. Love the white mountains areas!!

I am glad you are no longer worrying about the cost. It is certainly out of reach of most people. I was just up in Bretton Woods today. The weather up there was frigid, I must say. The ski area operators must be celebrating all the snow that has been falling. Conway is beautiful. I can understand why you love it.
