How long do core biopsy results take

hi,

I had a core biopsy of a suspicious mass and one lymph node with a thickened cortex on Wednesday morning. I’m a disaster, and yesterday Atlanta shut down for 2inches of snow, so now I have to wait the weekend. I am so, so scared. Does extended wait usually mean they found something?

    No, it just means the pathology lab is busy, or people couldn't get to work because of the weather. When they did the procedure, when did they tell you the results would be in

    I believe they can have he preliminary diagnosis in a few days, but it takes longer for the "real" information. I know my terminology isn't correct, but I thought of it like a culture. They take a piece and do whatever to it to get your ER/PR/HER information and it takes a few extra days to "cure" before they can get that information. I may be wrong...but I think they just can't get ALL the info in 2-3 days, part of the process simply takes longer to complete.

    They only do all that if the results are not benign.

    Thank you so much-they told me it could be anywhere from 48-72 hours, so Monday will be 72. They also called both days to let me know that results weren’t in yet, which was kind, but still so ready to know.My mind is going to the worst case scenario.

    Kellirlane, my first biopsy took a total of 8 days (Wednesday to the following Thursday). I was very worried about that one because it was a large area of distortion with a high probability of being cancer. The second biopsy, which was 99% surely benign, took a total of 14 days! So a long wait does not mean it's bad. I use a large teaching hospital with an accredited breast center.

    I know the waiting part is awful, but there is really nothing you can do to speed things up. It is very kind that they have kept you updated.

    I was told 2 days, but it was actually on the 7th day I got the results, benign.

    I had my biopsy on a Monday morning and I got my key results phone call Wednesday evening HERS was still pending) , but I am in a major metropolitan area with interconnected breast care centers that know how to move things along. I spoke to a MOC recommended by my primary, both calledafter hours, on the phone within an hour of the call, and the next Monday was in with a surgeon highly recommended for initial evaluation. I was aggressive in getting all this going, despite my shock. The surgeon then ordered a second opinion on the path slides, to be sure.
