Zometa infusion

Options

I need to have a tooth extracted and the dentist recommended me to go to an oral surgeon because I told him that I had Zometa infusion in 2010. He said that there is still a chance of jaw ocronosis 10 years after infusion. I think he is overly cautious. Anybody had tooth extracted after Zometa infusion?

10 years? I hope not. I just had my first last week and will probably get for a couple of years. I know that it can stay in the system (bones?) for a long time, but thought the risk goes down the further you are from the last infusion. I'm sure someone with more experience and knowledge will come along soon!

Check the Bone Health forum since the ladies who posted take Prolia instead of Zometa IV. When they need dental work they do it between Polia shots since it stats in your system only 6 months so less chance to get ONJ. I had Zometa only for 2 years & my onco suggested that I take Prolia instead .

I just had my first infusion. I drank lots of water before and after and also took Tylenol about 1/2 hour before and 3hours after. I'll continue with the Tylenol for a few days. My MO also prescribed compazine for nausea in case I need it.

Thanks to everyone here and on other threads for sharing their experience! I got zero information before or after the infusion and would not have known about drinking water or taking anti inflammatory meds if ihad not read it here!

3 days post-infusion and no side effects! I don't know if the water and Tylenol helped any but I'll follow the same regimen next time around.

Grandmax, Thanks for the updates on your response to Zometa. This is the only place I could find information, too. The Femara thread doesn't seem to show osteoporosis se's and I may have to dig deeper. My oncologist wants me take it for osteoporosis most likely from 2.5 years of taking Letrozole among other things. I'm not looking forward to being so sick again. Hopefully, I could mitigate it with lots of water intake and Tylenol. I just called my dentist to get clearance from him for possible dental work for the next 2 years but who can really tell if I would need dental surgery or not.

Hi Michelle, I just had my first Zometa infusion 4 days ago and I haven't noticed any SEs at all. Good luck!

I didn't take anything when I went my first Zometa infusion last month. I was really stiff 2 days later and did take Tylenol then. No nausea at all! I'm supposed go for one every 6 months for 3 years.

Had my first twice-yearly (for 5 years) Zometa infusion yesterday and I'm feeling gross. No nausea but chills, aches and pains like the flu. Hope it doesn't last long.

    Hi Jenniferx,

My first in January was like that, but it did not last long. Maybe 24-36hrs. The second in July was much easier, really just fine. I was really wound up before the first.
