I was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma In Situ (non-invasive), 17mm (.66 inch), grade 0 a few days ago. I am scheduled for an MRI on Thurs. I keep replaying what the doctor said when going over my ultra-sound guided biopsy he performed. "This is good, and I don't anticipate any surprises on the MRI". "And, I don't think there is much of the tumor left after the biopsy". So far, everything he has said has been true, but why would he say he doesn't anticipate any surprises on the MRI when he really doesn't have the results yet. He knew it was Papillary Carcinoma In Situ before the biopsy. He is a renowned physician specializing in MRI, and developed the specialized MRI machine used in the clinic I go to.

    It sounds like you've got a good doc. If there is anything that shows up on the MRI, they will go after it, and it will be okay. Sometimes docs can simply, if they've been practicing, use past history from their experience treating similar patients to try to project a bit of future--and he might have felt comfortable in saying it. I'd hang on to "he wouldn't say it if he was pretty skeptical" so look at it right now as good news, trust him--and let us know how it goes.

    Thank you claireinaz. I will hang on to "he wouldn't say it if he was pretty skeptical". I felt so relieved to learn that it was non-invasive, small and has a good prognosis, and then I started down the road imagining what else could be in there. I realize this thinking is counter-productive and does not help anything.

    I agree..my BS said I wouldn’t say it to make you feel better .. I’m saying it based on my experience. I felt more comfortable having had the MRI before my surgery. Even though they can pick up some false positives - mine just reaffirmed that my lymph nodes looked fine and they were! Best wishes to you.
