Lumpectomy vs mastectomy

Hi all. I am 39 years old. I have multifocal invasive ductal carcinoma er positive pr positive with possible lymph node involvement. Does anyone have recommendations for lumpectomy vs. Mastectomy.

    I may be completely wrong, but it seems a mastectomy would be safer with multifocal IDC Can you describe more why your docs are offering you the choice?

    the surgical oncologist feels we can always do a mastectomy later if needed. She feels bcs yields similar outcomes as mx if chemo, rads and hormone therapy are implemented. My medical oncologist feels a bilateral mx is best because i have dense tissue in both breasts. Both doctors say it is up to me. I will know more once my lympnodes are biopsied.

    I was multifocal and got two opinions- both recommended lumpectomy. Now I had an intramammary node with micro mets, but it was right next to one of my breast tumor and was just scooped out. I thought positive nodes outside the breast might change recommendations.

    Are you happy with the results of the lumpectomy? How bad are side effects of hormone therapy?
