Sloan Kettering Oncologist referrals, triple positive, stage 2

My case has been riddled with mishandling, and I'm rushing against time trying to mitigate any risk. I am having a 2nd opinion at MSK in NYC, and will need to set up appointments on Monday. I very much appreciate any referrals to breast cancer oncologists in the city either on this thread or privately. As mentioned in the subject header, I am triple positive, possibly stage 2a or 2b. I'm 47, and my perspective is in line with the most aggressive chemo, and not mastectomy - so I welcome oncologists with that approach, but obviously at this point, any great referral is appreciated.

Other wish lists are:
1. is open to ordering scans, MRI's, or US
2. welcomes questions and provides answers
3. accessibility - office returns calls, somewhat easy to make appts

    hi tiny frog, i am also a 40-something triple pos stage 2 and i was treated at MSK. i don't think you can pick your doctor or surgeon at sloan kettering, they are assigned to you. i have been very happy with mine and can provide more info if you wish.

    Actually, yes, you can choose your doc @ MSK, but they do not allow you to switch. I went there for consults to the docs of my choosing. I am treated elsewhere though. I’ll pm you the name of the oncologist I consulted with

    I was viewing this thread because I just sent my samples to MSK for a second pathology opinion and was curious what y'all were talking about… You and I have the exact same diagnosis. My treatment plan is very different from yours , andI wonder if I could ask you what made you go the mastectomy route? Was it because of increased recurrence risk? I am recovering from a lumpectomy/SNB and I am planning on radiation and then tamoxifen. As I am learning more about BC and reading posts on this site, I see many chose mastectomy and even chemo when our Dx are similar.

    Hi DownNotOut.

    I see that your post is directed at Reckless. While mastectomy is not a choice I would make for myself, I have found that some women with early stage, choose mastectomy for a variety of reasons such as: they also had DCIS that spanned a large area and would have been difficult to remove, they had a family history of breast cancer or had a positive genetic test, the tumor was close to the skin and they could not get negative margin on that surface, they had heart issues and could not get radiation so got a mastectomy instead, or they just wanted to get a mastectomy to get rid of it once and for all.

    Because I was HER2+, I am receiving the targeted therapy, herceptin, which is given the first 12 weeks with taxol, and then every 3 weeks alone for a year. Had I not tested positive for HER2, and was just ER+, like yourself, I would have been given an oncotype test on the tumor to see how aggressive it was. There are loads of detailed messages regarding oncotype tests and scores that you can search for. Women that have high oncotype scores will often be offered chemo, as it's possible to have small aggressive tumors and large unaggressive tumors.

    I chose mastectomy because I am BRCA2+ and thus have higher recurrence risk

    thanks for your responses; I am still learning! I have read about the Oncotype and BRCA tests recently and am thankful there are tests like that available to us now. My surgeon prefers the Mammoprint, and I am waiting on those results now. I also had the MYRIAD test for multiple cancersdone which is pending also. I'm praying for a good result on those, but I know that if I get bad news I am in good company with so many women in this community who are incredibly supportive and generous.

    you can request certain doctors at Sloan so long as they have appointments and their specialty is your form of BC . My mom went from one hosptial and wanted a second opinion from Sloan. We wanted either Jose Baselga or Maura Dickler. Both are phenomenal, we are thrilled with the service provided at Sloan

    i am in treatment at sloan in their middletown nj location, my onc is serena wong, she is good and i do like her
