Breast MRI vs. Bone/PET/CT

I was diagnosed with IDC on 8/30/17. To make a long story short since 2016 they’ve been saying I had a “fibroadenoma” and finally removed it; well that fibroadenoma turned out to be Her2+ IDC. After meeting with the MO I was sent for a breast MRI and wasn’t called and told they found a small lesion .5-.7 mm on my sternum and wanted a PET scan. Insurance denied the PET so I went for a bone and CT scan, bone scan stated “no obvious signs of metastatic disease.” The radiologist that read the CT said he wouldn’t have saw the spot if he didn’t see the MRI. So I go for a PET scan, sternum did NOT light up. I had two nodes biopsied and one was negative and the other said “minute traces.” The breast surgeon/surgical oncologist assured me that the MRI often “overcalls” things; they could not biopsy the spot due to being so close to my heart. My MO asks about pain there every time i see him I see him and said at the end they will likely recommend radiation at the end of chemo to be safe. Should I be worried about my staging?

    HI there, sorry you're going through this. Is it perhaps too small to show up on the PET, I understand it needs to be a certain size. I'd ask MO that and ask their plans for monitoring you. Blood work, repeat CT, Bone scan in 3 momnths.  assume they'll be treating you so it should cover the spot on sternum too.
