Everyone has such beautiful photos... This is one I took last summer...

Nice bee shot Jan. Bees are not my favorites as I am scared to death of them so this larger than life shot is what I feel they are when they fly by me. LOL
Nice waterfall Lisa. Beautiful scenery and composition. I found a huge dam yesterday and practiced shooting running water on that. It was so far away it was difficult and I am finding each moving water scene takes special settings. A challenge for sure.

How can you beat roses, chocolates and waterfalls all together!!!!!!
I just finished a really intense two day CAPS (Chicago Area Photography School). I am so wiped out but it was fantastic. I think most people would be astonished at the inside and real picture of what professional photographers actually do. All of the teachers were professional photographers and one that is a National Geographic photographer told us that his shots with the indigenous people you see in these amazing photos are actually staged. The photos are magical and unbelievable but not quite captured the way most of us would think. The beautiful photos that you see are the magic of photo editing in probably all cases. It is the world of digital photography. Challenging and exciting at all the possibilities of creativity.
Lisa, point and shoot cameras can only do as well as the photographer behind them. It just goes to show you that any camera in the hands of a skilled photographer can be awesome. Love the waterfalls.

I saw a video of Art Wolfe on a photo expedition. What amazed me was how much he knew about each creature he wanted to photograph. He knew their habits, food preferences, etc. which made them easier to find. I have a print of his photo of a wolf peering out between trees. He also had an awesome long lens camera. Good idea when photographing dangerous animals.

When it was late summer, sunset outside my door. Already miss the warmer temps! Why do we complain when it's cold and then again when it's hot.? Spring and fall don't stick around long enough for me!
-
Nancy. Proud of you for taking on advanced digital photography. Go girl! I wish I could wrap my head around it, but my brain isn't functioning on all barrels.
-
Lisa, Love your photo... makes me want to be there...
Bandwoman, It headed straight for me after I took the photo.... I didn't stop to say good bye... I'm allergic.

Hi ladies. I am supposed to be downstate at my mom's now but I have had to go to urgent care the last two days which has delayed my trip. My life was turned upside down for four months from a cyst on my back earlier this year. I had surgery on it in June and the cyst recurred and became infected while in the midst of my two day photography school so it was painful but thankfully the sessions were so good that it helped.
I will have to have this wound packed several more times and the next one is due on Thanksgiving Day so my time spent with my mom will be eaten up sitting in waiting rooms but I am glad I will still be able to go.
Lisa, was your son near you. I bet you will hate to see him move if that was the case. How are you coming along?
Paulette, love the fall leaves.
Wren, I have found that to be able to successfully photograph things of nature you do have to study their habits so you know when and where is the best time to photograph them. I have spent several hours just waiting for a heron to fly to where I was wanting and then waiting for an interesting shot. I am finding that photography is very physically demanding and I need to be in better shape to do some of the things I have been doing. I am a swimmer but I need some hiking skills and endurance.
I spent a few sessions with photographers who do winter photography and I am in awe at what they go through to get the shots that they do. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum this one presenter had a whole elaborate set of lights which would automatically make his camera shoot and he would be sleeping while he was capturing these amazing photos. That was not quite my idea of photography but he had amazing photos of night life that may never be captured for everyone to see. He had amazing hummingbird shots with a similar set up of lights and motion sensors. It was all staged.
What I am grateful for is that I can have a passion in my retirement with photography after a neck surgery ended my music career. It has filled a void in me in ways I had never dreamed of. Actually it was my cancer diagnosis that got me into photography. A story for another time.
Will post some pics sometime soon hopefully.

I spent a fair amount of time photographying dragonflies this past summer. This is a male Halloween Pennant. As I did some research on hot days which this one particular day was very hot and humid these dragonflies try to shield their body with their wings. Very fascinating to watch. It looks like dragonfly gymnastics.

Lisa, Is your son moving to the east or west side (of the cascade mountains)? East is drier and colder, gets snow. West side is mostly rain with an occasional snow. My friend and I were laughing that we don't own a coat without a hood. Warm or cold, it can rain any time.
