Hello, I was diagnosed with IDC triple negative stage 2b grade 3 and 2.6 cm.

I cancelled my appointment to get my port placed because im terrified to get the port I’ve heard so many bad things about the port. I know they say it’s easier but I was wondering if they can change the Adriamycin and taxol to something that wouldn’t be as bad so I can get it in my hand vein.

Also is there anyone that’s triple negative and didn’t do chemo?????

I really want to just do a mastectomy and radiation and if that doesn’t work I’ll do Chemo

Kell81 - for most people, the port works great. Honestly, I don’t even know mine is there. The chemos that are used to fight TN are selected because they are the best at killing the cancer cells. This gives you the best shot at beating this. At stage 2b chemo is really what needs to be done. TN has more of a tendency to spread outside the breast and does not respond to hormonal therapy, which is why chemo is crucial

I am getting ready to do Taxol 8 of 12. It has been a long road, but doable. Have you read some of the chemo forums? You’ll get a lot of support and see that it can be done.

Also maybe take a look at the NCCN website for early stage breast cancer - it tells you what treatment plan you should follow for your diagnosis.

    Best of luck

    Kell81-

I totally understand your fear about the port- unfortunately when diagnosed with breast cancer we are forced to do a lot of things that are scary. I can tell you, having the port placed was no big deal. I was a little sore for a few days afterwards (it just felt strange when I swallowed) but after a few weeks I completely forgot it was there. As the other poster mentioned, chemo is our best option for treatment and the Adriamycin has shown to be very important. I finished chemo back in early August, but still have my port- My Dr wanted me to keep it in case I needed it for a clinical trial after surgery, and it turns out I won't but I will probably keep it for a while since it doesn't bother me at all.

I was completely asleep for my procedure (I've read others were awake) so I literally went to sleep with no port, woke up with a port (no pain) and made my mom drive me to a restaurant for pancakes right afterward 😊

    You can totally do this!
