Goldilocks Reconstruction

I'm scheduled for BMX Feb 4, 2016, with immediate Goldilocks recon. I had been considering going flat because I am not at all interested in having several plastic surgeries to make artificial breasts, and all that it entails. My BS suggested that I see Dr. Ma in Atlanta; she's the PS who developed this type of recon. The advantage to it is that it's a one-stop-shop recon--it uses your own leftover skin to make small-to-medium-size humps, which helps keep your bra or camis down and looks pretty natural with clothes on. The pictures look pretty good, for most women. She says it works best for women with large breasts, who aren't interested in the standard recons (and I fit the bill!) Also, if after 6-7 months I feel that I need a bigger "hump", she can go in and put a small implant, basically a breast augmentation which would be a 1-hour outpatient procedure.

Has anyone else had the goldilocks recon? And were you happy with the results?

I did not have that procedure. Probably would not have been a candidate anyway but I still don't understand exactly what this is. I google it just out of curiosity and pics look good. How are they using left over tissue. I'm one of those people who have to know how things work! What I did gather us that it's becoming a popular choice with few side effects so it seems you're fortunate to have this opportunity.

Hope you hear from someone soon who has had it.

From what I understand, what Dr. Ma explained, is that the BS will remove all the breast tissue and nipples. Breast tissue doesn't look the same as skin and fat, so it's easy to tell the difference. She will scoop all the breast tissue out, leaving essentially empty pockets. Then the PS comes behind her and gathers up the skin and fat that are left and forms it into two mounds. The size of the mounds is directly proportional to the original size of the breasts--big breasts leave a lot more skin and fat than small breasts. Dr. Ma says that women with small breasts aren't good candidates for Goldilocks recon.

Just wanted to update this post--I had the BMX on 2/4/16, followed by Goldilocks recon. I have not been happy with it. The mounds left are barely there, nothing like the pics the PS showed me (and I'm a big girl with big breasts.) the right breast mound suffered significant tissue necrosis, 3" x 2" which had to be debrided; I had a wound vac on it for 4 weeks and now I have a special dressing that has to be changed every 3 days. The left breast had a giant seroma under the mound which,after eliminating the fluid, left a pocket 3" x 2" which I have to pack twice a day. Neither wound has healed yet. The right breast looks better than it did and the left breast pocket is slowly filling in, but it's going to be mid-May or June before complete healing takes place, if then.

Would I do it over again? Maybe. I'm glad I didn't go for traditional recon because I would have lost it all. The PS, nor the BS knows why it happened. Of note, I had a lot of complications with the original lumpectomy and re-excision. Maybe my breasts don't like to be messed with. At this point, recon is totally off the table. I will make a decision about whether to revise this mess in about a year, but no sooner than that. I am just sick of surgery and I still have one to go, hysterectomy. Foo.

Hey Ms. Lover of Poodles! Who is your BS? Dr. Amanda Morehouse by any chance? Did Dr. Ma say, by any chance, what the smallest current breast size would be to be feasable for Goldilocks mast? (I'm a C-Cup and don't mind being reduce to a large A as I am short.) I am in Atlanta too and while Dr. Ma was recommended to me by Dr. Morehouse, Dr. Ma has some very scary / bad reviews on some of the websites. Am still consulting with surgeons to find the right one who can do at least skin-sparing. THANKS!

My PS is Dr. Ma. I actually really like her and her NP, Lindsey. Goldilocks recon works best for women who have large, pendulous breasts. I fit that description pre-BMX, 42D. What I have now is a bare A-cup. My wounds are healing nicely now. Most women don't go through what I've gone through. I've seen 3 doctors (different practices) and none of them can account for why I have had so much trouble, even with the first lumpectomy it was trouble. Who knows?

I had Goldilocks done on May 11. It looks good, but feels awful. It feels like I have a very wide rubber band around my breast mounds. They are very hard and numb. Did you experience this? I know I'm only 5 weeks out from surgery, but am wondering if this numbness and hardness will go away.

I had Goldilocks on May 11, 2016, so just 5 weeks ago.

But it just doesn't feel right. It feels like I have a very tight rubber band around my chest. My mounds are hard and still sore, and my skin is numb. Did you experience any of these things?

Hello Treesamia,

I've been trying to gather as much information on a Partial Goldilocks Mastectomy as possible. This is the reccomended surgery for me and I'm wondering how it compares to a lumpectomy. I have already reached out to my doctore in hopes to get further clarification but the waiting causing anxiety to the max!

If not Treesamia, can anyone else give me the real, stone-cold, hard facts on this procedure and recovery experience?? Purdy pleasssse

Hello sdcknitter, are you feeling any better about the procedure? Do you still feel it was the right choice? I'm a ball of nerves as I've never heard of a Partial Goldilocks Mastectomy until a couple of days ago. I was first told I was a candidate for either Lumpectomy or Mastectomy (I personally was leaning towards Bi-lateral to rid the problem area once and for all); however, now BS has informed me the PS has reccomended Partial Goldilocks Mastectomy. As you probably have figured by now, I'm feeling incredibly confused and uncertain of the decision which was supposed to be made like yesterday.

Any extra detail would help me, and hopefully many others, immensely.

I had Goldilocks in April of 2016. I loved them, cute little booblets. Sadly they were completely absorbed over the course of 6 months or so and I am now completely flat. I don't know anyone else who had it so I don't know if others were successful or not. If I were you I'd do plenty of research to be sure what they're promising you really works.
